Weird.

The one with rain and snow is totally dry.

attachicon.gifnam4km_ref_frzn_ncus_5.png

The wintry radar maps they put out are usually too dry looking. I've found out that the regular simulated radar maps end up being closer. (maybe be slightly overdone, depends if there is any dry air issues)

went to a more open area, ended up measuring 5.75" snow in several spots

Roommate went out and measured, said our house has 6". So impressed, the snowmadome was in full effect, looks like near Elkhorn some racked up about 9". Perfect timing for you guys! 2009 flashback baby

Wow what a wonderful Christmas surprise! Ended up with 8.25" at my house. Most news stations and the NWS forecasted 1-2" which was upped overnight to 2-4". This basically fell in less than 5 hours too! I had to work this morning but left early when it wouldn't let up. Didn't get stuck all the way home until my driveway! Now onto Monday's storm!

That looks beautiful!  It seems these little waves this season are over performers and storms are very dynamic.  Lot's of Winter to go and you guys may be above normal in the snow dept by mid next week with over over a Foot of snow OTG!  Nice way to end the torchy December and transition to the colder regime.

That's beautiful man. Good snowpack starting up that way. More cold air for us folks to the south to work with.

Enjoying the pictures being posted.

Saw this and I got a chuckle.

Jim Flowers KMTV Meteorologist Sno-ma-dome has collapsed under the weight of the Christmas Miracle and all the positive snow energy this morning. Have a Merry Christmas, enjoy the snow and be safe if you are traveling.

Radar echoes are increasing in Northern Illinois and the 18z NAM looks a bit wetter for this evening.

Wouldn't be surprised to see some flurries around, but it's hard to imagine much more than that.

First off Merry Christmas.  And hats off to the ones that were able to get some snow for a white Christmas. And I am not sure if this will work but here is a list of the highest wind gust from last nights wind event here in West Michigan

My total with today's event was 4.2". This brings my season total to about 17" so far, which is about half for the seasonal avg. Not bad considering the winter solstice just began.

Not a bad total so far considering this winter.

Nice to see all of the Omaha metro between 8-10".  :D

There's always something special about a surprise snowstorm on Christmas Eve or Day.

My favorite was the Christmas Day lake effect snowstorm of 2010 where 13.6" fell - mostly within 6 hours.

What a beautiful scene this morning. Everything is covered in snow and its cloudy wih light fog. Everything has a bit of a 'glow'. Pretty impressive to have a white Christmas after this torchy month!

Take some pics!  Enjoy the snow buddy.  Merry Christmas...hope Santa delivered this year!

GFS/EURO/GGEM trio on board with a -AO/NAO pattern to open the New Year.  It's finally great to see the modeling flip this pattern and begin to set the stage for the likelihood of a more wintry pattern.

I've never seen a GEFS ensemble run agree so much that the AO should tank....

Pattern reminds one of Jan 82' (if your old enough.) Jan 20th 1982- Mpls saw 17" snow event. Jan 22nd 1982- a repeat of 17" in another storm. I was 8 years old and clearly remember jumping off the roof of my house ,some 18-20' above the ground into 3-4' of snow from snow blowers etc. Someone in this sub-forum could be looking at something very similar in a few days...

Last night LOT mentioned the second system for later next week.

AFTER A QUIET PERIOD TUESDAY/TUESDAY NIGHT... ANOTHER UPPER TROUGH
DIGS DOWN THE WEST COAST...THEN SOUTH OF THE USA/MEXICO BORDER AND
THEN BACK NORTHEAST THROUGH OUR REGION WEDNESDAY. THIS TIME...THE
TROUGH AXIS WILL SHIFT FARTHER EAST AND SEND A COLD FRONT THROUGH.
THIS WOULD SUGGEST PRECIPITATION WITH THIS WAVE WOULD BE COLD ENOUGH
FOR SNOW. A COLDER PATTERN SHAPES UP TO WRING IN THE NEW YEAR.

An observation... 34-35° currently with an onshore flow off a lake that's above normal. Temperatures nearly the same at the lake front too. And LOT mentioned that temps would stay above 40° today - busted!
