Crazy to think that this is just 10 days after the Willamette Valley is seeing temps 86-92 with smoke and gusty wind. Dustings of snow down low into the foothills.

Never underestimate the snap back capability during a La Nina autumn.  We have seen it many times.

I also just noticed that these temps are during the middle of the day! In the 30s at Corvallis

Rain!!!  

But also snow in the mountains on the 24 and beyond.  Both WA and OR Cascade's get a dose.  Also onto the ranges in Idaho.  They have tons of fires that need to be snowed on.

The best run yet. Persistent ridging/block over the Gulf of Alaska from ~150-160 W results in a cold trough digging south over us that persists for many days. This is quite impressive for late October. Timing continues to edge ahead with the pattern change beginning Day 5.5 now. It is going to turn wet and very chilly! This is going to be such a colossal difference from what we are and have been experiencing. This will also end the fire season. When I see a blocky pattern like this it makes me really optimistic for the coming Winter! C'MON!!!!

The wind was blowing pretty hard here earlier, probably gusts 30-35mph but now they've let up. Looks like another surge tomorrow morning

I'm so ready for this pattern change. Getting choked out of your town for a month straight...due to how low in the valley we are and how far in, the smoke settles and avoids the high winds pushing westward, and the marine push never quite makes it. Been at 100+ AQI this whole time.

It was windy this evening but apparently they've just decided to start roaring here in Maple Valley, wooooweee. Making me excited for the active season, and the upside of these gap winds is that the AQI here has returned to the green!!! The downside is that it's currently 74 degrees. At one am. In October.

 

I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. At least the models are finally being interesting again

Maybe sooner than anyone would believe.  I think of this as being a rubber band.  It has stretched to the absolute limits on the pull.  The harder the pull the harder the snap back.  With 1971 being a number one analog on recent runs who knows.
