I’ve experienced light snow/flurries too with fog inversions in the winter. It’s pretty cool to see and you can get some accumulations.

Maybe true for where most of the country’s population is located. It’s a western phenomenon, as it is largely driven by terrain.

Yes, and much of the West is mountainous. It's western lowlands thing.

That's a minority of the country, no matter how you look at it.

Definitely not just confined to the western lowlands. There are many intermontane and high mountain basins/valleys across all of western North America that experience the varied affects of terrain driven inversions.

Really seems like you're intent on nitpicking here.

My original statement was that it's not a common phenomenon most places. That's true. Not sure what you're aiming to prove here?

I’m not arguing about anything. I was just adding some context to your original statement.

Then you’ve got marine inversions which are their own animal. But thanks to oceanic currents/SSTs and, also coastal terrain to a degree, those are most commonly found on the west coast of North America as well. Outside of perhaps New England and points north.

Ok. I'm aware where it happens. Like I said in my original point, the majority of the country (population wise or geographically) doesn't experience that.

Thus the idea of "fake cold" seems foreign to most. Very few cities east of SLC see fake cold inversions except on rare occasions.

We have skied there... they do have some snow machines for the lower portion of the slopes but not for most of the ski area.

If I recall they really STRUGGLED in the run up to the 2010 WINTER GAMES. Something about an El Nino or something.

Sure this extended dry pattern will suck, we all love exciting weather and this is the opposite of that, but atleast there's some benefits. Great weather for thanksgiving travelers, great weather for putting up Christmas decorations, great weather for getting a Christmas tree, and great hiking weather, and there will be widespread sun, atleast in the afternoons.

Many of us are just waiting for the weather to get exciting again, but for now we should enjoy this current weather pattern, if we had a few months of non-stop precip and clouds, I'm sure most of us would do a anything just to get a couple days of our upcoming weather. Maybe that's just me though.....

Whistler probably ended up okay in 2010.  It was the freestyle events on the north shore of Vancouver that were in trouble.  I think they brought in snow from other places to make it work.

I think they also sometimes push snow down from the higher elevations if needed.  The base of whistler is pretty low elevation compared to a lot of ski resorts.

Here is a crazy fake cold stat... It also demonstrates how pathetic SLE's climate really is.

The 13 consecutive sub-40 highs at SLE during January 2013 is tied with December 2008 and January 1942 for the 4th longest streak in their 1892-present period of record.
