November 2023 Weather in the PNW

Tyler Mode

Recommended Posts

The EPS is looking interesting late in the run with PNA and EPO both going minus particularly on the control.  There might be a shot at a meaningful precip event early in week two.

There are 19 members that show the lows in SEA dropping below freezing again as we approach Dec 10.

GFS continues to show rain returning by Thursday... much earlier than the ECMWF.    I suspect the 00Z ECMWF will pick up on this trend.

Actually worked out.   ECMWF is much wetter than previous run.

Already down to 27 tonight.  Reasonably impressive for this type of cold snap.

The ECMWF and EPS are actually advertising even chillier max temps a few days out than what we are currently seeing as well.

Looks like fog has developed at PDX, they’ve been as low as 28 on the 5 min obs. Salem hit 26 on the 5 min obs, EUG is currently 23. Probably a little colder than I was expecting…

06z GFS was a bit wetter than the last couple of runs. Less ridging in the long range, less splitty in the mid range. Nothing super interesting in the lowlands, but ample snow at the passes and above .

That's why mornings in the mid to upper 30s can have frost.  BTW...proper placement is to have your temperature sensor 6 feet above the ground.

Also why, if your car has a temperature sensor, you can’t be confident if it shows, say, 38˚F. Dip down into a cold air pocket and there could be a nasty surprise waiting.

It's called clown range for a reason.

I normally go over to Beaverton to visit a friend on Saturdays and when I got to the car, it was very frosty. I looked at the Troutdale Airport observation and it said 43 degrees. It was 33 on the car temperature gage. I'm in Beaverton now and it's even colder here. This is the first time being below freezing in the Portland area. Feels good!!! 🤗🤣🥶

Low temp of 7.7!! Now that's a forecast bust! If it got that cold today, can't wait to see what we'll get down to in a couple days!

This weather is amazing for snowmaking, Mount bachelor had the guns out all night to add to the base, once we get a storm with half a foot or so, they'll probably open up.

Looks like Eugene killed it last night with lows in the low 20s.

Meanwhile dropped to 24 here.

I actually toyed with the idea of making snow during weather patterns like this, but never pulled the trigger on it.  There was a guy in this area who actually did it and the Seattle Times did an article on it.

It realistically appears the early part of week two will have some more active weather.  Beyond that I'm not so sure.

I was kind of thinking the same thing.  Thankfully the citizens of Seattle finally voted out the insane left wing city council they had which created this mess.  It finally got bad enough.

Not the place for this topic... but downtown Seattle is much improved.   We have been through there a couple times on the way to my son's place in Ballard recently.    No idea what is happening in Portland... but downtown Seattle does not look like some kind of dsytopia now.   In fact its actually quite nice.   And I have been one of the harshest critics of Seattle.

I think it’s getting better overall in a lot of major cities now that we’re out of the pandemic. Seattle…is a bit better than a couple years ago but still I don’t go there if I don’t have to.
