Mark Nelsen said the arctic front is travelling faster than expected. When was the last time that's happened? I thought it was usually the opposite

Yeah, I think even PDX will see a bit of a surface arctic boundary from the NW before they get the gorge outflow. That's a hallmark of our bigger blasts. Arctic air made it from BC to here in less than 24 hours.

GFS with astonishingly cold lows in the willamette valley on Tuesday morning. Single digits for many areas, even 10 at Eugene with no sleet/snow cover.

I wonder how ice cover compares to snow cover in it's ability to chill the low level atmosphere.

12Z GEM doesn't quite get there on Wednesday... the trough doesn't dig as much and that brings up warmer air into western WA.   This run looks great for SW BC though.

I hate it when we transition like that out of a cold spell. No fun.

I could easily be getting mostly sleet out of this in Tigard. I really hope that cold layer is just thick enough to give me some decent snow before annoying ice stuff. It should be close here.

12z HRDPS says Scappoose is the big winner in PDX Metro. In the end I feel the Canadian mesoscale models will prove to be the most accurate. I’m still thinking it’s being too aggressive with the warm tongue so I’d add more snow to these totals. Especially south and east Metro. There will be an area in Metro that will see over a foot. I’m certain of that.

Are there any examples of having top tier cold like this around the sound and not having any snowfall to speak of?

I find it hard to believe we transition from this cold of air without some sort of snow storm.

I think some of the models are overdoing the sleet maps. The warm layer is pretty thin around the 850mb level and in the 33/34 degree range. The models might be overdoing the WAA associated with this anyway

Steelers-Bills game Sunday will be near blizzard conditions, according to FFWeatherGuys

🚨🚨 We have an Extreme Weather event shaping up for Sunday's Steelers @ Bills 1pm game.

Near 30mph sustained winds with moderate-heavy snow will result in near-blizzard conditions for the duration of the game.

You don't see #NFL    playoffs games in blizzards often.

Last nights GraphCast had some snow reach Puget Sound tomorrow. Precipitation usually makes it further north than modeled. I think you have a good chance getting some snow, especially southern Sound areas.
