12Z GEM doesn't quite get there on Wednesday... the trough doesn't dig as much and that brings up warmer air into western WA.   This run looks great for SW BC though.

Sometimes, but not always, the over-running afterparty is our reward for dealing with a dry, bitter blast.

Pretty exciting stuff, usually we don't get such a well-defined artic front/boundary coming through down here like this, ends up as a slower bleed of cold air through the gorge initially. Pleasant surprise that the cold is not delayed and even seems a bit faster than promised.

The TV stations are being extremely wishy-washy. How are people supposed to know and plan for the weather when they won't give any useful information. At one point the screen showing the weather was blank. We need a better way to track weather conditions besides what's available.

Just read that the 3 degrees in Bellingham this morning is the coldest since January 6, 1982.

Interesting as the Sierra 24 hour snow record of 67" was on the 4th and 5th of that year. Sounds like an article front went through and then we had subtropical moisture stream in after. My neighbor said he recorded 50" in one day with that storm which is amazing for lake level.

Hopefully this bodes well for less warm air advection with our storm tomorrow

I've held pretty steady at 20* here for the last few hours. 20.3*-20.5* it seems. DP is at 10.2*! Had a few small gusts roll through, it was so pretty watching the snow blow around! Like living in a snow globe! :D Super hyped at the possibility for more on Saturday!

GFS does have some flurries and light snow making it down into the metro area this afternoon from the front. Won't amount to much but would still be nice to see.

It's very lightly sprinkling right now, hopefully those turn into flurries soon

This was just posted on the Whatcom County Weather FB page as an “unofficial” gradient tracker.  Looks like it peaked around 6pm at -18.6

Not crazy strong by historic standards. I don't have anything in front of me to verify, but I seem to recall passing -20 a few times in the past several years. Probably offset the lack of snow cover in allowing the temps to fall a bit more in the blast zone.

All-time record low temperature at Ross Dam this morning in the heart of the North Cascades. Low was -3F which beat out the -1F from January 1, 1979. Records have been kept since 1960.

I feel like the record low should be significantly lower than -3F considering its location in the Upper Skagit Valley, but maybe it doesn't generally decouple enough during these cold snaps to lead to really cold temperatures.

Pretty neat to see what could be one of the all time great winter storms to hit Portland in this current climate.

With what we have seen in recent years sooner or later we will see a once in 200 year winter event somewhere in the northwest i believe.

Must be a mistake.   All time record cold temps are never broken any more in the PNW.   Rest of the world yes but not here for some reason.  😀

Ah yes... our annual Super Bowl snowstorm.  Pretty much guaranteed.   Can you tell me now if my satellite dish is going to be covered in snow?    🤨

People living at Ross dam probably went to work last night and came back this morning and didn’t even notice a difference, though. Maybe threw an extra jacket on.
