my God, this forum has devolved into the worst of the worst. It's always emotional and reactionary in here, but it seems that the rational and seasoned members have pulled back to make way for the kids.
I'm going to step back for the day too. It's just too much uninformed nonsense.
I am excited for a lot of you guys, because it seems like this is your first time tracking a PNW winter storm. I remember my first time.
I feel a little odd saying it, but given the iron triangle that is the US/Israel alliance, I really don’t think Biden is doing all that badly.
Sure, I wish the whole incestuous, morally compromised relationship hadn't gotten to this point. The USA should have pushed Israel hard when they started building illegal settlements in the West Bank after occupying it in 1967. But there is the world as it actually exists, and the world that I wish might existed, and the two are not the same.
Announcing an intent to suspend certain forms of military aid should an offensive proceed is, given the above, a pretty unprecedented development, one which carries significant domestic risk for Biden. All the evidence, in other words, is consistent with Biden being upset with the disproportionate scale of Israel's retaliation, and trying to rein it in. My guess would be that the Biden Administration is being quite pushy and explicit via diplomatic back channels.
He’s definitely better than a fascist like Trump would be. Fascists think bigotry and wars of ethnic extermination are good things. Trump would back Bibi 100% and then some. You can even see the roots of such sentiment here, where some of the resident fascists (and yes, that is what they are, fascists) are now openly talking about bigotry against their enemies being justified. (And no, not all the righties here are fascists. Many are conservatives.)
This probably sounds weird, but I don't have a thermostat. We have 2 woodstoves in the house with a large surplus of firewood, and a couple plug in heaters that we don't use, just have it in case we need it. We have an AC in our window in summer which we rarely use, it usually gets cold enough here at night that all we need to do is open our window. Never had a point of installing a HVAC system in our house when we built it, would've been pointless for how expensive it is.
Intifada literally means “uprising” in Arabic and thus can mean just about any sort of uprising, from peaceful to violent. Just like not all revolutions are violent, neither are all uprisings.
“From the river to the sea” is a phrase I personally disagree with, but it predates Hamas (it goes back nearly 60 years) so can hardly be considered an explicitly pro-Hamas statement.
If that’s the best you can do, you are making my point. If there really was widespread pro-Hamas sentiment, it would not be limited to such covert expressions. Overt, explicit expressions of such support would seep out and thus be common.
What about the Infatada banners and the "From the river to the sea..." posters and the Jewish students being attacked and the campus closures? I'd assume most of them are peaceful, but so were most of the January 6 protestors and some on the left are saying it was worse than 9/11/2001
