When was the last time an actual lowland snowfall occurred in the middle of April? This seems pretty anomalous, assuming even by pre-WWII standards.

Depends if you're asking sticking snow or not. April '08 had wet snow in Hillsboro. For a minute I think it whited the grass but nothing else.

Either way it's a little more rare than seeing snow in November, and that's a relatively sparse event.

Probly depends on location. This area has never had a snow in April. We are just simply too far south and at a low enough elevation that it cannot happen.

Objectively not true at all of course. Eugene area had a widespread several inches fall in mid April 1911.

This feels like December 2021 all over again. This all looks pretty but 925's never drop below -1C and most of the precip comes in with surface temps of 35-37F so color me extremely skeptical.

Screen Shot 2022-04-10 at 12.10.23 PM.png

It'll be an isothermal situation, so really just a matter of getting good precip rates with flat gradients and getting down to 32-33F.

Been sunny up here most of the morning  with zero precip (which I believe is in line with what the models were showing).  No idea what the temp is, Ambient Weather is sending me a free replacement to the replacement temp sending unit on my weather station, it will be here tomorrow.  I'm missing having my weather data LOL!  A quick tour of wunderground looks like the we are around 48-50 in my area with a house at 955' up on Squalicum Mtn coming in at 41 (about a mile away as the crow flies).

Awesome to see the snow pics for those down south.

They issued a special weather statement for here lol. They think it has a small probability of snow in this location, giving it like a 15% chance haha! Our conditions are way different than where our NWS office is.

Well there’s definitely still a couple more chances for snow in western WA too despite it not working out here this morning. Lots of times models under estimate precip on the north side of systems coming in.

The models are going for a ridiculously cold day on Thursday right now with the GFS going 39/32 for McChord and the ECMWF 42/27.  Crazy azz numbers for this late!  Those max temps would be up for coldest max temp ever recorded this late in the season.  Speaking of cold...it's only 42 here right now at 1pm.

This is awesome!  I'm a part-time auto reviewer and photographer!  This Challenger Hellcat would look handsome on some mag covers.

I will be very interested to see how things play out in NW OR and SW WA tonight.  At face value the numbers look good enough for significant lowland snow down that way.  On the other hand the models showed snow here last night and we only got a mix and some ice pellets yesterday and today.  One thing for sure if this were Dec - Feb it would certainly be a very big deal.

I think we should give Jesse one more chance.  I think this next year is going to be some fun times for us, and it would be nice if he could join in.

In about a week we try to climb back into a more normal pattern with some warming around the 19th.

Sometimes we see the coldest min temps coming out these things.  This whole thing has kind of a 1954 vibe, and it dropped into the 20s on May 1 in the trough to ridge transition.  Incredibly long cold run for this time of year regardless.

Difference is this one will likely transition from cold troughing to +EPO/stormy zonal flow, which is basically the opposite of a trough-to-ridge situation.

Wouldn’t the opposite of a trough to ridge be a ridge to trough?

The HRRRRR has consistently looked like this all day as well. 🤮

Yeah some of the mesoscale models (HRRR, NAM, FV3, etc) are still being d*cks and doing that. I suspect we have no margin for error with this. I'm still inclined to trust the euro above all the others though. I don't know about accumulations but I'm thinking snow in the air is pretty likely at this point.
