Is Hood River higher or lower than Bend?

I know The Dalles is much lower than Hood River.

Hood River is lower, about 657K, average home is only on the market 9 days there. Very low inventory, only 12 homes sold in June. White Salmon is actually more expensive than both at 801K.

Looks like there is a new wildfire start up Abiqua Road outside of Silverton, 3 alarms, up into timber now. I would expect them to be able to knock it down pretty quick, fairly accessible terrain.

Spokane housing costs are pretty much lower than anywhere in Western Oregon.

Median sale price in June was 826K in Seattle, 379K in Spokane.

A few samplings from Oregon:

Bend: 725K

PDX: 560K

Silverton: 493K

Eugene: 493K

Medford: 444.5K

Salem: 436K

Grants Pass: 410K

Looking at some suburbs:

Bellevue, WA: 1.5M

North Bend, WA: 1.13M

Lake O, OR: 953K

West Linn, OR: 810K

Wow even Reno is more expensive than pdx having crossed $600k for the first time last month. I would have never guessed that

Just looked it up. As of 2020 the median household income in Seattle was about 33% higher than Portland.

However, the median home sale price as of June 2023 is about 50% more in Seattle than PDX. Front Ranger can fact check me on that!

If you look at the Seattle metro area vs Portland metro area, the latest data I'm seeing is around 42% more for Seattle metro.

The data I'm seeing from Redfin shows median sales price in Reno currently around $542k. May 2022 it hit $591k.

almost moved to Reno in 2018 when we left CA.  also looked in Flagstaff, Santa Fe and Bend.  ended up in Spokane.  the value/cost for what you got in Spokane in 2018 for your $$ was a lot more in Spokane than the others.  also liked Santa Fe. its blown up since then.  wasn't sure I could commit to 'all the time' adobe though

Just looking at things today Spokane seems like a nice value.

Wasn’t that day in the picture since I remember it being quite warm that Christmas!
Probably low 40’s was the coldest ever, waited too long into October to pull the boat and jetski out of the water from the lake house but I don’t remember what year that was now.

I forget if we covered this already but we had a 99 Tahoe that same color with the same bug guard. That was the family wagon when the kids were growing up. Great car with lots of great memories.

Not to directly answer your question, but I can throw more wood into the fire because I get to mention one of my favorite sci-fi short stories.

Don't know if you've gotten to read Isaac Asimov's The Last Question. But the long story short is, in 2061, humanity asks Multivac that is a complex supercomputer "How can the net entropy of the universe be massively decreased?". Simply put, how can humanity avert the heat death of the universe? Multivac, the supercomputer, responds "insufficient data for meaningful answer".

Now this goes on and on for several generations that span future eras through humanity, millions of years into the future. And then billions of years into the future. Humanity has become completely space-faring, inhabiting plenty of planets and galaxies. The supercomputer has also evolved through the billions of years. With each generation, humanity has asked the computer "how do we avert the heat death of the universe?", to which the computer keeps replying for the next billions of years, "insufficient data for meaningful answer".

Now trillions of years into the future, the stars die out as matter and energy come to an end, along with space and time. Before humanity fades away, we ask AC (Automatic Computer, who is the descendant of Multivac) one last final time, "there's really no way to advert our death?". AC says "there is still insufficient data".

Humanity then dies. AC continues to exist in hyperspace beyond the bounds of space, gravity, and time. The supercomputer continues to think to itself about the last question, how do I now reverse the death of the universe? And after more years to its lonesome, consolidating data from the eons of its existence, and then figures it out. And decides to show the answer to the last question in an action.

AC says "Let there be light!". And there was light

How I interpreted the ending is that AC (a parallel to JC or "Jesus Christ") started a new Big Bang and created a new Matrix-like universe simulation. And what if that is how our own universe started? 😳 Sorry it's non-weather related but easily one of my most favorite stories to gush about.

Sorry missed this earlier. I love it.

I have a son living in Ballard and another near UW campus and they say it's improved significantly.   The new mayor has been instrumental in the effort.

I live in the area as well and I would agree. It’s still an issue and lot of people need help but it is better than it was then when I first moved back into the area in 2006. At least for NW Seattle.

As someone who rolls his eyes at most climate hype, the ongoing heat in the Gulf/SE Coast states is unprecedented by a wide margin.

I’m surprised alarmists aren’t talking about it more frequently. Unlike most other stuff they bloviate about, this is the real deal.

Both.

For instance, New Orleans has been approaching 100°F regularly, with heat indices between 110-125°F every day.

And it keeps going.

Okay, warmest ocean water. 🙄

Tho the GOM is actually a tad warmer than the Red Sea on CDAS. Which is bonkers.

Our blob though an incredible anomaly is nothing compared to that madness. It now seems a process has been set into motion which cannot be stopped. The melting ice caps will flood our world oceans with so much cold water the conveyor belt of heat to the mid and high latitudes will be cut off, and some scientists posit we may see a 9F temp drop in a decade in parts of Europe and N. America. Turbulent times indeed.

Spent a few days up at Watch Lake over the BC day weekend.  The weather was nearly perfect.  Topped out at 84F on Sunday, which is pretty warm for up there. (3600ft elevation).  There was a bit of smoke at times but it wasn’t too noticeable.  My girls and dogs had a great time.
