Flurrying out there right now. Didn't think the snow would start until tomorrow. I haven't been looking at AFD's lately so what do I know.

image.thumb.jpeg.ae797a8d8099d231aca0d254053a5c83.jpegIsn’t this the lowest 500mb height ever over Puget Sound?

this is March 5 1951.   Looks like 504 over Seattle, 498 Bellingham

Reminds me of a couple of the GFS runs five days out in early January 2005...

I have a feeling that we'll start seeing some better runs as New Years and beyond come into view, plus or minus a few days. Maybe the 00z will start that? It initializes soon, so we'll know in a couple hours.

The first good run for the lowlands will be on Christmas. Santa is a good guy. This place is going to be so joyful that day!

That's mind boggling and then add on it wa March 5th! Incredible.

It actually makes sense that it occurred so "late" in the season. Since 500mb GPH is a factor of mostly the 950-500mb region, it is largely dependent on those temperatures. And guess when those temperatures bottom out? That's right, around late winter/early spring, since vertical temperature transfer is so delayed. And keep in mind that the high arctic is still cooling because they don't get sunlight until at least March 20th.

Enjoyed the trip home under that rain band this evening. Temp was pretty constant coming home... 41*.  The positive splats on windshield continued down into Portland.  Precipitation was pretty heavy at the time.
43/36 here today and the last of that band pushing through.  On the lighter side up here...no splats :(

My wife and I picked out our first puppy together (Dewey) in December 2003.  A couple weeks later...

44/11 at KLMT. The hour or so of flakes dodged the airport somehow but it doesn't surprise me.

Clearing on radar now, should be some more activity in about 12 hours.

Just checked out Euro, shares a little more snow on the east slopes with 5.0" here. 5-day total.

10-day totals give more to the cascades.
