December 2014 Observations for the Pacific Northwest

This was the best part.

Puking: Heavy thick snowfall that accumulates to form good powder snow and freshies for skiing.

I've heard the term "puking" snow before, but never "freshies". Ah, Canucks.

Not sure that its a Canadian term.  I am pretty sure lots of Yanks would know it as well.

Pretty common ski bum term in the states as well. I thought you lived in CO??  :P

Ah Snap!!

Cant blame you for that eh!

Looks like a good "freshies" day on Vancouver Island's ski hill.

That pic is from the base of the mountain.  You can just barely make out the "snow ghosts" that exist closer to the top.  The heated web cam enclosure is not keeping up with the snowfall rate.

I always see true winter in the PNW from Nov 15-Feb 15.  Starting to lose confidence.  Play-clock ticking down...

If we are still in this predicament on Jan 10 I will agree with you.

I disagree.

Significant lowland snow after February 15th is not that uncommon while it is very rare before November 15th.

I'd say about November 20th to early March is the time-frame where serious Winter weather is much of a possibility.

Everett Snowfall (510 feet elevation)

Snow since February 2019: 91"

2023-24: 6"

2022-23: 17.5"

Not posting and driving would seem like the best solution.

The new 18z GFS looks even better, I can tell this is going to be a great run.

Seriously doubt it will be better than the 12z.

I like what I see at hour 216 on the 18z GFS. With strong H pressure in SW BC this has lots of potential. I feel models are too aggressive pushing all the cold air east.

Yeah... there's not much historical precedent for cold air going east.

I'm driving.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

I'm definitely no ski bum, but I usually go 2-3 times every winter (was just up in Vail last week). Never heard that before. Maybe it's a PNW ski bum thing.

Lots of "freshies" today. I am delighted to see that it is still snowing pretty hard in all the passes in WA state.

Today has exceeded my expectations in snow fall. Lots of locations picking up double digit snowfall totals depending on location and elevation.
