Phil
Just to drill home how irrelevant “warm ground temperatures” are for snow/ice accumulation. It was 75 degrees here Wednesday afternoon with full sunshine. Just 12 hours later we were already seeing ZR accretion on *pavement* with an ambient temperature in the low 30s. And ZR releases latent heat, which often keeps BL temps warmer than they would otherwise be. Precip itself cools the ground very quickly. Water has a very high thermal capacity…put cold water on anything hot and it’ll cool that hot object quickly. What actually matters (especially for snowfall) is the *rate* at which it falls. It is by far the most important variable for accumulations. Don’t factor anything else into the equation until you’ve factored in rates. 2 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=
