I feel like if any winter in the 20th century is gonna be a big one, it'll be this one.

(Of course our actual impending blockbuster winter is going to come as an absolute shock out of nowhere some years down the line.)

Every year is unique and I see so much beautiful potential. We ll see what happens, but I think we have a shot. A real shot at something magical. Just went from summer to winter this year. Never quite experienced anything quite like it.

I was just thinking about that today.  4 months of epic torching and then a huge crash that's apparently planning on staying around for a while.  I also like how the torching is mostly being confined to the warm weather months.  It actually gives us more well defined seasons.

I think if any winter in the 20th century is gonna be a big one, it'll probably be something like 1915-16, 1936-37, 1948-49, 1949-50, or 1968-69. 😉

2008 repeat, but will be longer in duration this time. I had around 36” with that one and a low of -3 degrees…let’s make it 50”+ and -10 degrees this time!!!

Lucky! I only had 30" of snow and it only got down to 2F here. Barely worth repeating if there's going to be that kind of disparity!

hasn't been above 40 here in 2 weeks.  I think we might've gotten to 38 today.  Running -8.7 on the month with some 'milder' air on the way.  'milder' in the sense of near normal or just slightly above.  should finish the month probably -5 below or more

I'm trying to find a november that's been this far below normal 'without' extremes.  What I mean is most cold novembers (-5 below average or more) have had some sort of extremes in it at least over here.  (negative temps, a lot of snow or both). this one is just chugging along relatively dry and consistently cold over the last 2 weeks but nothing record breaking or extreme (yet).  I think this next cold shot has climatology in its favor and low solar radiation in December to get really chilly.

I want a repeat of Jan 1916 just so I can see how it actually evolved/happened with Satellite imagery. I can't even imagine some of the snowfall #'s the models would throw out 1 week before that event. lol

There’s been some really lengthy periods of anomalous cold and warmth this year. Maybe we’re going back into another one.

I see it similarly too. While I appreciated April's intense cold, I couldn't help but feel disappointed that the weather pattern didn't manifest itself in January instead. Nice to feel like we're repeating at a better time of year.

Ultimately nature will do what it wants and there are no hard rules, but it's nice to think of a constantly troughy Nov/Dec to marry with Apr/May.
