There is almost always a pullback before the unload (if it happens).

Regardless, this also looks like it may end up affecting western Oregon too.

I was joking about Arctic troughs and their westward trends thus far this season, and how that might eventually work in our favor. Didn't expect it to be so literal!

I see no reason to doubt it. The theme of the winter has been insane high-latitude blocking. Europe is getting it now... Western U.S. looks to be next.

Very unique. Sort of happened in December 1983 and also late January/early February 1985. Not many examples I can think of since then.

I think both of the 2013-14 blasts had a little inversion going into them but not a very well developed cold pool.

Yeah, what were the dynamics of the Dec 2013 event? I went to Texas and had an ice storm there when everything was happening here.

That low is moving east over the northern tip of Vancouver Island at this point. I'm going to write a letter to get that moved to Astoria by Wednesday's runs. Meanwhile, Monday night temps.
