Hmm, my mom has her holiday party Saturday eve. I really hope snow doesn't cancel it. I missed it last year with Omicron.

This thing is way too far away. There is going to be a 24 hour period at some point between now and friday where models waffle or pull back and i might die

There is almost always a pullback before the unload (if it happens).

Regardless, this also looks like it may end up affecting western Oregon too.

Didn’t expect to see such a westward tendency. Pretty crazy considering this thing is cutting into such an amplified ridge.

I was joking about Arctic troughs and their westward trends thus far this season, and how that might eventually work in our favor. Didn't expect it to be so literal!

Pretty unique to go from a low level cool pattern to an arctic blast, isn’t it?

Very unique. Sort of happened in December 1983 and also late January/early February 1985. Not many examples I can think of since then.

I think both of the 2013-14 blasts had a little inversion going into them but not a very well developed cold pool.

Main thing I’m confident about is after all the dust settles we will still be looking at 32 years (or 24 depending on who you ask) since our last top tier regional blast.

Do you actually think any of us are ever in a good headspace? Yeah it’s going to be a wild week.

Yeah, what were the dynamics of the Dec 2013 event? I went to Texas and had an ice storm there when everything was happening here.

I know it's the GFS and my location has been terrible for snow this Fall/Winter but I'd like this to verify.

That low is moving east over the northern tip of Vancouver Island at this point. I'm going to write a letter to get that moved to Astoria by Wednesday's runs. Meanwhile, Monday night temps.

EDIT - Kolk has the fastest fingers in the west. Same map as above.

Sitting here drinking some coffee, looking outside at the beautiful snow, sun is peaking out, and the morning deer just ran by, perfection!!!!!!!!

Now where is Jim??  I don't think this forum will be able to contain his jubilation after these morning runs.
