Consistent 1+ inch ice totals in the Gorge coupled with 50+ mph winds will not make for a good time

After February 2021 I think 1/2” of ZR is nothing.

The January 2004 ice storm was actually extremely damaging at Silver Falls. The loop trail was closed in sections for a year or so afterwards.

Someone mind posting a localized view of PDX and the Gorge on that ice map if possible?

With all the offshore flow and a cold airmass I would think we could cool the column enough to support snow. I'm not to familiar with ice storms so I'm not sure. But there will be evaporate cooling so maybe it will just be a sleet or snow storm for the sound. An ice storm like that is pretty much unheard of up here.

I'm thinking the NWS should issue a winter weather advisory for the Central Puget Sound area tonight.  I'm also puzzled about how they have no mention of possible strong east winds in the EPSL forecast beginning Wednesday night.

You will have to go up 4000' in PDX for the general snow level so I doubt anywhere west of the cascades will stay snow for long.

Yeah I’m waiting for a high wind watch for the EPSL soon…

It's probably worth mentioning the models hint at some of the cold east winds being shunted down toward Tacoma on the models.  I don't think it will be a Feb 2006 type thing though.  It seems like the east winds behave a bit differently when very cold air is in play.

The snow depth and piles around Bozeman are the highest I've ever seen them for this early in the winter. This is the parking lot at the mall and the piles are probably almost 20ft high.

When does the event start/end for Puget Sound?  Does it end because the moisture dies or it rises above freezing?

The main event is supposed to be midnight to 6am ish.  Moisture dies.  Cold will not be a question.

I was actually thinking it looks the most like that kind of setup since Feb 2006.

I remember the 500mb level trough back dug sharper on that one.  I was expecting horrible winds here and got off somewhat easy.  I think I peaked around 40mph with a temp of 23 with that.
