Part II- January 2020 Obs and Discussion

In 50 years when weenies are discussing the roaring 20s and how epic the winter weather turned in the PNW they will mention it got off to an inauspicious start in 2020 with a regional dud. "BUT!" Someone will chime in. "There was a brief, but intense Frasier River blast in mid-January."

Definitely seems like it will be a bit reminiscent of 2004-05 and 1980-81, both of which had nice events for NW WA and SW BC but sucked for the rest of the region.

Good news is the mountains are currently doing a lot better than those two years, but we're going right back into a bone dry pattern after this week probably for the foreseeable future.

This seems like a sort of downgraded version of February. Some Seattle area snows again, but not as much. The same areas in the Portland metro got a little dusting rather than inches this time. I'm glad I got something though. Now to maintain a healthy snowpack through late spring.

Downgraded and condensed. The February cold and snow events kept coming.

Those are Christmas lights. This is an old picture. Nice try!

Left them up on purpose...winter was 10 days away ever since the end of December!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Can’t people just chill out a little more these days? Everyone seems so wound up. Just relax and enjoy the day off is what I would tell that guy.

Unless we get something pretty unexpected in February I think it is safe to say we will end up in like company to those years. It is what it is. We had a decent run the past three winters, and it was nice to have a cool fall for once.

And at least we are solidly above years like 2014-15, 2002-03, or 1991-92. More in the 2nd class of losers.

Just so disappointed in this whole thing. Man it was looking to be an epic week not so long ago. 36 degrees in Kent and we barely got any snow at all. Oh well, here’s to hoping for something happening in February.

Pretty disappointing for sure for anyone south of Seattle. Overall, it was pretty exciting to track something fun other than just boring split-flow.

Not even all that bothered, glad some hit the jackpot. Onto next one!

Portland area is tracking pretty close to those ones, honestly. No sub-40 days at PDX yet and no lows below 26 there either. A few brief sightings of snow though, which is a slight improvement, but otherwise no dynamic weather after October.

2014-15 as bad as it was did at least manage a couple of fleeting modified regional airmasses and a significant windstorm here.
