Punxsutawney Phil was pulled from his burrow in Gobbler's Knob Sunday morning and did not see see his shadow, which, according to legend, means an early Spring and warmer temperatures are coming.

Thinking it may be tough to get snow here for February as teleconnections remain largely unfavorable. Especially as climo tends to get worse and will exacerbate the unfavorable pattern.

On this day, 5 years ago...brings back some good ol' memories of this storm which was an amazing day time event...

:)  Thx for the walk down memory lane Tom. 20" Kzoo, 18" mby with 16.5" for Sunday alone (my largest single-day total). Like Jan 6, 2014 the dig-out was epic as I wait for the entire storm to finish. But thankfully it was a pleasant sunny day after, unlike the brutal -16/-41F WC the year prior! Unfortunately, I didn't get a single photo of this BD.

Sadly, even JB has said "it's over" if that verifies. Did I mention the CPC's final last-minute call for Feb on Friday, Jan 31st did a complete 180 wrt temps for those of us E of the Mississippi?

The official 12 pm temperature of 46 at GRR now ties 1973 for the 2nd warmest February 2nd in recorded Grand Rapids history.  Here at my house it is now sunny and 50° The record for this date at Grand Rapids is 48 set way back in 1903. We shall see what GRR reading is next hour and for the rest of the day. I am getting ready to go for a walk in the warm sunshine.

Spring will come early this year, according to Dallas-Fort Worth’s own groundhog meteorologist.

Arboretum Annie didn’t see her shadow Sunday at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, signaling that spring will arrive ahead of schedule.

The timing is fitting, with highs expected in the 70s Sunday — although temperatures will drop again Tuesday with the arrival of an arctic front.

NBC Local

And snow, Wednesday?

New record highs set at Grand Rapids and Muskegon. With the official 2 PM reading of 49 at Grand Rapids and a reading of 48 at Muskegon a new record high will be set at both locations. The old record high at Grand Rapids was 48 set in 1903 and at Muskegon the old record was 44 set in 1987. The current temperature here at my house is now at 51. We will have to wait and see what the new record will be at both locations.

Unsurprising. Guess the fact that I'm a bit closer to the lake than the airport matters cuz it's a brutally cold 52.0*F here.

Managed to hit 60 at about 230. Even better is the very light winds.

Wow, that’s a lot warmer than it was here, but a solid snow cover tempered the warmth here. I had a high of 50° so it still was a lot warmer than was forecast. I’m guessing only an inch or so of slush remains as of now. Our glacier is lasting longer than a normal snow would’ve though. Current temperature is already down to what it was this morning.

Lol misses to the south. Then rain. This February is going to be Epic! Wishful thinking and fake model runs will never make up for current trends. Need to start looking at all the signals not just the ones 10-20 days from now that show up “wintery” every time. It has failed all winter and no reason to think it won’t continue. It’s over. Can’t wait for the freak snowstorm in April.

Very briefly touched 51F around 3 pm. Hard to imagine that's a record here. Snow cover finally done, but the cement slab made it 15 days in a mostly hostile environment making it seem more wintry than the records will show.

All models bring something wintry within 50 miles of me or over me today. Will be interested in the trends over the next few days. Truth is, though, my grass is turning green today. I've got wild onion growing in my yard on this Groundhog Day. My hopes of any snow, whether a "T" or 6" isn't going to be too great. 2" soil temps are 49°. That rivals late autumn for warmth. I hope it snows though. It will be a nice thing to watch.

We actually had a decent snowpack too. By decent I’d say maybe 2” on average this morning. I definitely wasn’t expecting 60 today based on snow cover and models showing the front and cool air moving in sooner. Took a pretty big hit of course today but there’s still a little left and it’s not just the piles.
