Surface Arctic front about to hit Creswell and then shortly after midnight will reach Dexter/Lowell and Cottage Grove and the low levels of the Willamette Valley will be completely frozen. First time an airmass has been able to do this in a long time. This is definitely one for the books and will be a lot of fun to study years from now.

Mark Nelsen forecasted a midnight high of 25F at PDX for Thursday, he might nail that.

Notice the sharp wind/temp drop right at the end there. That is all in the last hour, and is missing around a -1F or so of new data. The NE Seattle decoupling zone is forming and separating itself from the metro UHI influence! Let's go!

Legit so fun to watch temps DROP to extremes for a change! Keep in mind tho, in our old climate, this would be adjacent watching temps reach 92F or so, hoping for 97F.

Coldest east wind I've ever seen here.  18 degrees.  The previous benchmark was 19 in Jan 2004.

After seeing the GFS tonight I think we have decided to spend tomorrow night at the in laws.  We have trees in our yard and watching ice slowly build up on trees is like slow torture.  At least we got the two most problematic trees taken down a couple of years ago.

I will say the GFS seems to be too cold east of the Cascades which will hopefully lead to a less nasty outcome than what the GFS showed tonight.

It's just 12 degrees right on the water here, at the ferry terminal. Impressive! I also saw there's a freezing spray advisory till tomorrow morning.

This is quite something.  Have you seen how fast the models spread the tongue of cold air across almost the entire country?  It looks like a dam break happened.

This feels just like the ice storm I experienced in January 2012 when I lived in Moscow Idaho. It's a spooky feeling. I've never experienced this kind of weather on the western side of the Cascades before.

HIO reporting 23F DP 7, colder than both PDX and TTD now. Easterlies gusting just under 30 mph even at HIO.

Upper Row River valley is now below freezing and higher hilltops to the SE of Cottage Grove are also freezing over. These areas get hit with the marine air first so until they warm up, everything down here is probably going to stay frozen.

Wow... you being this concerned now has me much more concerned.    At 7 a.m. on Friday the upper levels are still close to a snow/sleet profile and that is when the heaviest band of precip moves through.    I am trying to convince myself this would not be all rain.

Mt. Yoncalla in the North Umpqua Basin is now down to 31F. The surface Arctic boundary is hopping over the Kalapuya Divide...

The ECMWF does show some snow here with that initial band early Friday morning... after that it shows a break until later in the afternoon and hopefully it will be a little warmer by then.

Was 22 at midnight here. Down to 21 now with the east winds roaring. I think some downslope has kicked in. I will be surprised if it’s any warmer than this at any point tomorrow.
