This is proof the models are now catching onto the idea the layer will be colder. This sleet could be snow instead pretty easy. I still think north of Olympia is looking at a light to moderate snow event. 2-4 inches if that. Most of the moisture will be ate up.

I think @BLI snowman was saying that it will start out that way for a while but eventually it will overwhelm it and air will saturate enough for precip.

Appreciate that and we feel extremely fortunate. Our house does really seem to come to life over the winter and holidays. We can thank some smart real estate investments in Portland that allowed us to build such a house when building costs were actually affordable here!

Walking dogs and it is brutally cold out here with that gusty east wind. If I don’t post later this afternoon, the cold took me into the great abyss.

I can't wait to build my home on my 120 acres in north east washington. We got a killer deal on the land and since then property there has tripled in price. Our property is bordered by national forest also.

Can you imagine taking the dog for a walk in denver yesterday? you leave in a hoodie at 46 degrees and 1.5 hrs later you get back home and it is zero!! lol

I'm up to 21, there are some thicker high clouds to my east, oddly enough. To the west it looks like there's some sort high haze/clouds? Idk. Hoping to stay below 23.

It actually worked pretty well, but I don't really know the exact temp. It probably was around -15 to -20 but my phone app said -10.

120 acres!? That is amazing.  There is nothing better than walking out your front door into national forest while giving you peace of mind that the landscape around you will never change.

Hi all, here to ride out the icepocalypse with y'all (as long as I have power, at least). This is the closest weather station to my place, don't see dewpoints below 0 often, especially this close to the river.

I tried the boiling water trick with a jar of room-temperature mayonnaise and now I have a pile of chilly mayonnaise on my patio and need to put a coat on and go get mayonnaise.

More than a degree of cooling in the last decade and now some all time record lows being set. That just doesn't really happen anymore on the planet. If you were a forest dweller in that area living adjacent to the internet and modern life, you'd think the globe was cooling! lmao

I would think Seattle southward gets an ice storm warning today. But NWS has been playing this pretty conservatively so we will see what happens.

got down to -5 during the 7am hour IMBY, guess that will be the low for today.  currently 0 with a WC of -22.  wind and high clouds definitely prevented the super freezer

-40 definitely hits differently! Main difference I noticed is that it's a lot more difficult to breathe! Your chest instantly tightens and just takes your breath away with each inhale.

From what I recall about subzero weather, the main difference between 0°F and -20°F is that the latter stings more when you first walk out into it. Both quickly numb all exposed skin, after which the perceptive difference is not that great.

Just as happy to be living in a coastal climate that gets a taste or two of interior conditions each winter.

I'll be at my place that week with my family.   Have you looked into having it plowed.  I use Cascade Concrete and they only charge me about $50 a plow for a driveway that's 250 feet or so.  I have them plow ever 7 inches.  Typically I pay about $350 or so every plow season. This year will be a bit more.

In February 1989 I seem to remember the pass reports giving temperatures in the -20's.

Mines frozen solid. My Ma used to wrap the little twinkle Christmas lights around hers, to keep them warmer. Works well, if you have some of the old light strands. These new fangled LEDs don't get warm enough.
