No likey.

I don't see much of a chance that the majority of the Portland metro escapes with less than 1/2" of ice.

What are your thoughts on Puget sound getting more snow than freezing rain? I feel like there is a good chance hood canal stays snow for a long duration.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

I forecasted 27 at midnight for PDX. Looks like they may shave a degree or two off that. Sub 25 would be sexier for posterity. Either way their high is almost guaranteed to come at midnight, which isn't something we've been able to say very often in recent cold seasons and is a hallmark of strong CAA.

I’ve been pretty impressed this evening. Definitely faster and stronger CAA than I’ve anticipated at this point in the game. I think there’s a good chance PDX stays in the low 20s tomorrow afternoon too.

Hood Canal will definitely preserve the cold a little longer at 850mb, they always do. It looks like they could keep the column snow friendly under 13z (5am) on Friday, so while still a fairly quick transition they may indeed stay all snow through the entirety of that first wave of moisture. Problem is that precip still just doesn't look especially heavy through that time in the Puget Sound, with no model showing more than 0.2" of QPF for anyone.

Friday morning's WAA looks pretty uniform, though. Gonna be a messy day.

Bam! Single digits! Which is always odd to see on my weather station with one less digit lit up.

Pretty sure 9.9F is still two digits.. 😉

Sorry I'm bored.

The GEM was most aggressive model for ZR in 2021 and still ended up under doing.

Definitely feels like a pre winter weather day with the cold winds now howling out of the east. How does the EURO look?

Could we please get a zoom in on PDX for sleet, QPF, and ZR?

Still scouring Portland out way too quick, as well. Its temp output is fairly laughable but it's actually colder than the other models. Here's Saturday morning. Note that gorge factory SLE is two degrees colder than PDX.

Let's just say that if Salem really is still below freezing on Saturday morning, then all of NW OR is gonna be in for a pretty ugly weekend.

GEM seems the most realistic with warming us up. A very nasty Gorge ice storm on it

Down to 14 now. Looks like I may witness single digit temps for the first time since Dec 2008 tonight!

NWS says 32 for a high tomorrow. Currently at 35 but have winds from the north. We've got some work to do if we want to have any chance of finding that unicorn. Cloudy skies are unhelpful. Running out of time. Midnight will be here soon.

Pretty sure the streak is a lock to live on here. Still 35F and no signs of dropping anytime soon.

Duvall valley gets a little colder huh? I know Woodinville dropped to 8 degrees in 2008.

I live just over 400 feet up on the hill. Don’t know if that makes a difference though. The stations at the bottom of the hill in Duvall always seem to be a degree or two above the station that’s by my house. I hit 10 degrees twice in Feb 2019 and got down to 11 one night last December so I was very close those times.

Check your freezer for ice cream maybe. A well aimed chunk of it could be helpful if you could throw it on the sensor.

During cold nights like this it should actually be colder at lower elevations I believe.
