I achieved a 6-hour high of 3 in the afternoon of Dec 23rd. Ignore the 40's at midnight, the entrance of that front was just poorly timed. :)

It looks like I did have a 31 on 12/8/2021 but I wouldn't say we had any arctic air that month. Lots of 50's to near 70 throughout that one.

That cold wave was amazing throughout the CONUS. 23 degree high here on the 22nd.

I was a couple of years into my first home purchase.  Honestly could've been anywhere from 2001 to right about 2006.  I really don't think it was 2008 though.  I didn't keep records or anything back then and honestly was way too busy with my business to pay much attention at all.  It did happen though.

I remember telling my ex how crazy it was that we had snowflakes coming down in June.

Now that you mention the range in years.. 2001 would be the only year where June had a couple chillier days at the beginning and a few locations had a freeze in early June '01. But anything after '03 doesn't really check out.

A first home purchase sounds pretty big a life event, if there is anything else you can remember happening that stands out right after you got the home, and you can place a year to it, I'm sure there's something.

April 2022-- now that was an event. I'd fathom one of the more incredible events we've seen in the last decade, even over more significantly impactful events like February 2019 and 2021.

I’ve seen slushy rain fall in June, but that was in the Rockies at over 6,000 feet elevation.

Have not seen snow fall later than April in the lowlands west of the Cascades.

I've not seen measurable snowfall between Memorial Day and middle of October In K-Falls at 4k ft.

That range will get even wider now at my new location.

Salmon /crab fishing? I know several different people in WA that do it every year as a tradition. They go to Alaska and work at a cannery or a seafood boat and make more money in two months than they do the rest of the year.

Used to work with a guy who was part of a group who worked in Alaska 3 months and surfed in Hawaii the other 9 months.  They were in their early 20’s so they just had a basic crash pad close enough to walk to the beach.

I tried to get a gig up on the north slope for a few years but couldn’t make it work out

I worked in Anchorage on a school contract for 2 years and the prevailing wage was pretty sweet.  I won't divulge what I made but I could've bought 3 or 4 high end Teslas from those 2 years.

Yeah the money was the main driver, the adventure aspect was a close second.  I have a buddy that worked up there and he was trying to help me, but not having experience in oil and gas was too much of an obstacle to overcome.  My buddy told me what he was making at his old job and what it would have been at his new job and it was eye opening.  Plus there was nothing to do but work, he could work all the hours he wanted so he was on OT by his 3rd or 4th day, and he worked all 14 days of his trip up there…

Explain what? I was gone for 2 days. It was cold, there was no heat on in the house so it got chilly.

Wood burning is his source of heat.

It’s true. If it had been colder I would have had my in laws stay here. We have an electric furnace that I haven’t used since fall 2011. In the next few years we may be replacing our heating system. The wood stove is pretty labor intensive, though between my place and my dads we never pay for wood. Just have to get the chimney cleaned periodically.
