BLI snowman
How is the prospect of east wind looking for the PDX area Friday and Saturday? Are models missing some of this? Gradients are weakly southerly on Friday. Early Saturday morning things should take on an ESE bent for Portland, which is when our window for sticking snow should begin. As long as precip rates cooperate that timeframe should be good for lots of 32-33F snow, IMO. On Saturday evening a true gorge push will get going as the low passes to our south. Probably some decent outflow with it as the low looks sub-1000mb.

Front Ranger
Nice work. It’s funny, I actually haven’t seen 1956 come up too much in comparisons yet but that was another consistently cold February. I could easily imagine this month scoring a 37-39F average at PDX. And that is pretty conservative. The crazy thing is, after 2/6, 1956 only had two sub-40 days at PDX (they were both below freezing as well). So this thing is looking like it should easily outdo 1956 from a later-in-the-season perspective. A forum for the end of the world.

Perturbed Member
Snow totals in PDX aren't as impressive as the precip maps would suggest because the GFS is thinking a chunk of the snow is falling as non-sticking 33-34F snow. It shows as snow on this map but the soundings show 34F at PDX with some SW flow. If it is off by even a degree or two, that will swing the snow totals greatly. Hopefully the gorge influence can get us something with that.
