The only time I remember anything even remotely happening like that was in December 1996. Last time something like that happened here was back in 2000 or 2001. Forecast was for 1-2” of slop followed by sunshine and melting, and we ended up with over a foot with blowing and drifting into the night. School buses picked us up that morning as snow started falling. By 11AM there was 6” on the ground and they closed the school. Bus ride back was nerve wracking but fun. By the time we got home, 9” had fallen, and the wind had started to roar, kicking up clouds of snow from the ground and roofs. Ahh, the nostalgia. One downside of todays model precision is surprises like that are much less frequent. But so are surprise busts, so I guess it evens out. 4 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=
Phil
Crazy thing about hurricane Otis is even the tropical storm force winds only extended 60mi from the center. That’s an insane amount of pressure gradient force packed into such a tiny area. I’m sure that’s an important factor in explaining why model guidance shit the bed. Small storms are notoriously fickle and can ramp up/spin down astonishingly quickly. Literally less than an hour drive from near 200mph gusts to 20mph breeze w/ partial clearing. The eyewall swath was so small it could fit inside the DC beltway. 3 1 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=

November 2021 turned out very wet with nearly 15" of rain, tons of gross warm front drizzle for days on end. I love rain, but days of thick mist while we torch is less than ideal.
