my God, this forum has devolved into the worst of the worst. It's always emotional and reactionary in here, but it seems that the rational and seasoned members have pulled back to make way for the kids.
I'm going to step back for the day too. It's just too much uninformed nonsense.
I am excited for a lot of you guys, because it seems like this is your first time tracking a PNW winter storm. I remember my first time.
Is that what happened? I had read initially he survived the fall and attempted to climb out, but suffered another fall. I never followed up so didn’t know if that was initial rumor.
Challenging and technicality are very different, I said technical in that comment. Mailbox peak (without snow) is what would be considered a walk up in terms of technicality despite it being physically exhausting. There is nothing about it that requires advanced experience/gear, to summit Mailbox all you need is a pair of hiking shoes, some food and water, and the physical ability to climb it. I would say these same applies to Mt St Helens when the snow is melted out.
I used Mailbox as an example when someone asked how technical denali was because it is one of the most popular trails in Washington and there is nothing technical about it, it's a good baseline for a scale.
