January 24th/25th Possible Winter Storm Probable Nebraska Screwjob

Looks like OMA is getting some good returns on the back end.

Yeah we are getting hit pretty good this morning, moderate snow falling in West Omaha currently and it's slow going out there on the roads. With the 1/2 to 1 inch that we picked up yesterday evening, and another 1 to 2 inches this morning - a solid 2-3 inches of snow across the Omaha metro looks good.

Not a great system by any means, however we will take it!

Take some pics!  It's been 5 weeks since we have seen close to 1".  Enjoy the snow whoever is getting hit.

:o OUCH!  ..and here I thought my 2 wks was horrid.

Unlike most W > E systems we see around the MW, this one actually has a "tail" component with snow wrapping around the back of the SLP. Actually continues over to us in MI tomorrow. Some may get the lake to enhance and score legit WWA amounts. Even mby has 70% and "snow likely" in the local. :)

This b purdy

@ Niko - flakes incoming even for you if this should verify

Anything beats looking at brown grass!  I'm sure it will help the mood.  This is prob not the last snow you will see this season.  I'm eye-balling some over running snows in NE around GHD.  Pattern is looking more exciting.

Absolutely, it looks nice out there plus I love this type of wet snow, it sticks to everything really making for a pretty Winter wonderland landscape.

I am not giving up on winter yet, even though this snow will likely be long gone by early next week. Mother Nature shall giveth little this Winter to Eastern Nebraska, and then of course she will quickly take it away. At least we will get to enjoy this snow for more than 48 hours, unlike our other small snowfalls this Winter LOL.

That's actually pretty good to hear from OMA.  Last night it didn't look good.  I assume this primarily came from this morning.

DSM area getting in the mix with the back end snows...seems to be holding together as it pivots east. Might score a couple inches out of this.

Hoping for that. Regardless, it'll be our best snow of the year most likely, which isn't saying much. If we get what Omaha got, I will be happy...And on to a snowy February!

Looks like it is pivoting just right for your area.  What do you have OTG so far?

KRMY baro trace already down to sub 996 mb's and the SLP is still a long ways off. How deep is this currently. Thought it was prog'd to weaken as it heads our way?

34° and light snow most of the day. Roughly 2" of the forecasted 3-5". Strange for a January storm but snow accumulation severely limited by warm surface. Seems more like April snow. On the bright side it covered up the dirty snow left behind from the thaw.

What is your snow depth now?

At least with the Iowa page there, that's just the past 12 hours. NW Iowa you can another half foot. I saw reports if 18-20" there. Nothing like that here, but good gracious, I actually have more than two inches!!! It's a snow miracle.

Very impressive totals. Too bad it couldn't shift 50-100 miles south, otherwise many of you out there would have cashed in.

The initial heavier part of the backwash precip earlier this afternoon/evening was a bust, but after dark it cooled a bit and light snow piled up to 0.8 inches.  That will probably be my January total.

season snowfall: 34.8"

'22-23: 30.2"      '21-22: 27.1"      '20-21: 52.5"      '19-20: 36.2"      '18-19: 50.2"      '17-18: 39.5"

Average snowfall: ~30"

20" reports. Thats amazing

Yeah, when the NAM shows nice totals within a day or so, they will usually verify pretty close to what's shown. Last minute NAM nailed the 16-20" amounts across SMI with the SB storm 2 yrs ago.
