Interestingly... it has rained almost every day this month but SEA is only at 50% of normal rainfall.     And the last part of the month will likely be fairly dry with more blocking.

Might be similar to January 2019 😱. January has delivered varying degrees of sh*t in recent years but that one was a warm drier than normal combo.

End of the EPS still looked like this on Jan 17 2019. But it seems like the big sticking point which slowed things down then was Phil stuff about the IPT/IO/MJO/Intraseasonal forcing/subsidence/Nino plus a solid Hudson Bay Vortex/no eastern blocking in place. As far as I can tell, all the former stuff was in our favor this year and there's been solid -NAO for a while, so there's potential for this to move along quicker? Please, someone speculate with me.

Wasn't it a massive SSW event in late Jan that caused Feb 2019 to happen?

Ya that started at the beginning of January I think. Super big one. Don’t know if we can say it caused it but according to some of Phil’s posts back then it helped for a beefy airmass that stuck around if I interpreted correctly

I think it was the reason for Feb 2019 to be snowy and cold.  It was a Nino year, and February in a Nino year is usually the warmest and driest relative to normal.

We are at 8.03 inches of rain since the 1st. Really getting soaked over here.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Crazy! I think we are still just under 1” for the month.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Where's the nearest weather-themed bar and grill? Probably doesn't exist. Monitors would be showing the satellite loop, the radar, latest GFS runs, etc... Would have its own weather station naturally.

Nice couple warning shots on the GFS, then a big load of cold air into the middle of the country to end the month, setting up afterwards for some retrogression and February delight.

As long as it leads to a February like 2019.

Probably won't see something like that again in our lifetime (In February at least.). I don't think I truly appreciated how special February 2019 was in the moment, and in many ways I think a lot of us still fail to recognize how special it was. We talk a lot about the all-time months, the January 1969's, January 1950's, December 2008's of the world. February 2019 is in that pantheon IMO. In our climate the ceiling on a February is not going to be that of a great December or January, but February 2019 was about as special as they get.

Eh. Call it a raging case of backyarditis, but there’s no way a month with a min/max in the mid 30’s can be thrown in the mix with a month like January 1950.

Fair. Yeah I wouldn’t say February 2019 rivaled January 1950, no February can, more so for a February it set a pretty high bar for sustained cold and snow. To me it will always be the January 1969 of Februaries.
