In recent times yes. 1951-1952, 1915-1916, 1910-1911 would have all been snowier going into March

What about 1846-1847? How does that compare with the best of the them? Or just climo at the time?

I love where I live but weather would only be a secondary consideration. If you live in the foothills, you need to be prepared for a lot of precipitation. Sandy get about 65". When it rains it really pours. I would never move out of the NW, I am too grounded here. It amazes me how many people move around to different parts of the country.

Seeing all this talk about  moving to a snowier place. I'm a bit lucky cause I still have to go through college and then find a place to live. Def would not pick my heat island N Seattle location as an adult, or even Seattle at all tbh. I fell like a King/Snohomish line convergence zone neighborhood could be a great balance.

If you're not set on Western or UW, you could always go to WSU, Central, EWU (although thats more for Spokane locals I'm told), Gonzaga, or Whitworth. Plenty of snow there in-state. The last two are private.

You can grow citrus and avocado in Santa Barbara and have a lot less smog and traffic to contend with.

Quite familiar with SoCal. Lived there as a small child, have relatives there, and have visited many times. LA has some fun places to visit but is definitely not for me.

Agreed. What does your name mean? Is it a weather reference or Canadian?

Ha, if it were only about snow then yeah, goes without saying! Doubt even Jim would move based on snow alone.

Have to factor in climate, geography, finances, and convince your partner to go along with it. 😆 Otherwise you’ll probably be miserable. I personally wouldn’t relocate somewhere with a super high cost of living and/or a shïtty tax code if I could avoid it (tho hard to get worse than here). And I need frequent thunderstorms to get me through the awful summer months.

I get that. My location gets some pretty solid t-storms and I was surprised to learn that for my part of the PNW has their highest precip in May when you get that convection going. Last year was nice but because we had a wet and snowy April, didn't have to worry as much about fires and could simply enjoy the storms. July and August here are brutal and make me miss the west side. June is usually warm but not always horrible.

Going to be interesting to see how much more snow this band has dropped. Been stuck at a meeting in Salem.

If I were you, I’d dive 100% in. Make the biggest change possible.

Lake Tahoe or Truckee CA. Coastal Maine. Buffalo NY. Something that is totally new, of which you have no prior knowledge or expectations.

Coastal NH and Maine are incredible. Beautiful part of the country and tons of nor’Easter’s. I used to live near Portsmouth, NH and got over 100” of snow in 2014-15. I’d recommend “Downeast” Maine for the most snow as it’s in the path of most coastal storms, although it’s very isolated. Summers are very tolerable for east coast standards although they are more humid than here.

I lived up in North Conway, NH in the White Mtns from 2000-2003.  Love Portsmouth, cool little city.  Nor'eastas were always an awesome experience.

NDJF average for PDX not including today is 41.8F.

Fourth coldest NDJF of the 21st century, behind 2016-17, 2013-14, and 2000-01.

Looks like for SEA it's the second coldest of the century behind 2011-2012

The grass pollen in late spring alone is enough to make me consider that area unlivable.

That was the #1 reason we left the area (Albany/Corvallis).  I was maxed out on steroids every May-June and it got to where it was barely making a difference.  Went down to Portland about 6 years after we left in June, and I made it to the day we were scheduled to leave (about 3 days) before my allergies started flaring up.  I told my wife "let's eat breakfast, load up the car and get the f*ck out of here!!"  Since then I've done almost 5 years of immunotherapy and can handle it much better...I haven't tried the WV in the spring, but I can things here without any issue.

Looks like I will be ending February with 5.20”  through the rain gauge…Some of the February precipitation will carry over into March since there is still plenty of todays snow on top of the weather station.
Temp is at 29.2 degrees. The snow is quite sparkly this evening!

The gfs shows a major snow event for the hood canal and most of the kitsap peninsula Friday night and Saturday.  I'm trying to wrap my head around what I'm looking at. Could be huge amounts with this. Flow is offshore and there is a bunch of upslope snow. Might be insane.

Please do us (or me) a favor and post when you move to WW. Always nice to have a SE WA presence too! I think you'll be the closest poster to me, although Phishy is 2 hrs so by EWA standards not too far.

My sister toured Whitman but chose Lewis & Clark in Portland when she was looking at colleges. She eventually transfered to a school in CA an hr from home. But she liked Whitman when visiting.
