In winter I'd like to experience the snow you guys get up there around Hood Canal when cold air is able to bank up against the Olympics. I heard somebody refer to it as similar to the Forest Grove effect down here but on steroids.

lol, that’s another one that gets me fired up!  20 miles away they get hammered and we get warm rain   

It is fascinating the diverse ways we all get snow around the Sound though.  Is what it is.

All that cool troughing and mean temps have still been a little above average this summer. Maybe the warm water in the North Pacific isn’t meaningless

 

The water along the coast is actually colder than normal.  Pretty classic -PDO look.  It sure hasn't been warmer than normal inland.

I just like that it's old school.  Our summers used to be cooler and very dry.  My only complaint about this pattern is the nights haven't been quite as cool as they could be if some small details were just a bit different.  Basically if it's dry in the summer I'm happy, but being enjoyably cool is a nice plus.

Looks like it hasn't happened since 1955. The first eight days of July 1955 were frigid even compared to this year, though. PDX only hit 70 once in that stretch.
