Some schools in Minnesota close for severe cold. Will any in the NW do so? What does the P.H.I.L model say?

Yeah based off Michael Snyder’s tweet it doesn’t seem like the Euro has a cool bias. If anything I’ve always felt like it has a bit of a warm bias at least in the winter time.

Don’t think it’ll get very cold out this way, but I’m having a friend trim some of our trees in anticipation of a windstorm when that TPV arcs through. I’d do it myself but can’t because of my back injury.

One thing my kids really liked was blowing bubbles in the cold, they turn to ice bubbles and you can touch them. Although if it gets REALLY cold, it doesn't work because it'll just freeze before you even get to blow it.

keep a couple sinks barely running when temps go below 10. make sure any foundation vents are blocked/closed/insulated.  make sure garden hoses are disconnected and spigots on house are covered.  you can buy insulated spigot caps at the hardware store

Beautiful sunny day today.  Got the Christmas lights taken down and might try to get the lawn mowed before the snow hopefully comes.   One of my Santa decorations had a living wasp on it, in January, yea it’s been that mild.

One thing to keep an eye on late this month is a possible robust MJO wave in region 7.  It almost always gets cold in the winter with that.  Maybe it can just stay cold all the way through, but I'm doubting that.

Winds blowing over the Cascades and down the McKenzie. Don't even need the Gorge to fill up the south valley with Arctic air.
