I know its cliche, but 2020 has really just completely sucked. Sometimes I think I've handled this year well, sometimes I feel like I'm completely falling apart. Living in 2020 is probably what a normal year felt like like a Century or so ago. But we are not used to it in our modern times. But yeah...From a weather standpoint this year has really sucked a big one too.

If the next ten years can mimic the 1920s weatherwise then we'll all come out on top.

Objectively, 2020 has been one of the more insipid years for weather events in my memory here. Minimal snow, no significant convective events, no significant storms of any kind really (I've only had three days with over 1" rainfall), and for temp extremes it's been severely lacking. PDX has a paltry low of 28 so far this year, which if it holds will be a new "warmest low" (1992 at 27, and that year at least ended with a bunch of snow).

I think the most noteworthy event of the year here was easily the Labor Day windstorm and the ensuing infernos/smoke fallout. I would go as far to say that that's probably been the only significantly memorable event.

Ready for 2021....

It snowed in March!

And some of those model runs in January were crazy good!

2015 was pretty unredeemable from a weather standpoint, though our society had not yet completely fallen apart.

It was pretty bottom-of-the-barrel, but the extreme nature of the warmth that year plus the incessant storminess of that December made it feel a lot more dynamic than this year has felt. And even with all the torching I still managed a number of colder temps than this year has featured.

Only years that "stand out" to me more for their weather dullness here locally are 1999 and 2001. And at least the economy was booming in one of those!

The long range is definitely close. That low looks like its going to cut off and drift toward Hawaii, but instead gets sucked back into the westerlies and kind of screws everything up. The east gets cold at least!

It snowed about 2.5" in Silverton where I was living on this date 12 years ago. It snowed 5" in Silverton 4 years ago today, though only about 3" up here.

It’s December 14th.

12 years ago snowed but it didn’t snow very much here. Such was the story the rest of the month.

I was under a winter storm watch or warning for most of the time between the 15-the 25th. The 14th only featured a WWA. 😞

Up to .09” on the day!!!
42 degrees!!! Who needs a December like 1990, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2006, 2008 when you can have drizzle! 🥳

Anyway, 1.31” of rainfall for the month, 55.11” for the year.

Wednesday’s storm might change that equation but it could also bust locally.

Appears to be some sort of lowland snow event from Eugene south next Tuesday, on the 12Z Euro.

Yeah, that anafront scenario has been tossed around on a few runs now. Those setups do seem to favor the south valley a bit more on average (probably owing to the tendency for airmasses and fronts to stall over the higher terrain in SW OR).

Sunny today with a low of 16.

Yesterday was just a trace of snow, and was mostly wet. We're in mid-December and I am behind other winters considerably right now.

You could say the same about up here. We probably average more snow annually than Redmond and I've had less than you. Only a sloppy 1/2".

You, Andrew and I all live in pretty snowy climates. As of now I think the only places that have performed pretty well are confined mostly to the cascades.
