Winds have finally slacked off here after about 4-5 hours of 45-55mph gusts. Decent storm but nothing crazy like up north…this was a typical once a year or so storm down here.

It may have hit 82 somewhere along the Strait. This area also have SUSTAINED winds of 50mph+

2006 was extremely strong in the Strait. Peak gusts were almost 100 mph (98 mph and 93 mph on the Vancouver Island side of the Strait). Up here Padilla Bay, a few miles from my house, gusted to 85 mph and Everett hit 66 mph. I remember the old house shaking so badly we weren't sure it was going to make it through the night. More than two dozen power poles snapped in half within a mile of my house and we were out of power for more than a week.

This may have been somewhat close to 2006 in a very narrow band, but even in that band I don't think it exceeded it. Even if PAE lost power and we don't know what its max gust was, I can't imagine it was above 66 mph. On the other hand it looks like Point Wilson near Port Townsend hit 72 mph tonight which is pretty significant.

That storm had a 970mb lowest pressure. This one was modeled at 985-987. Real time observations saw sea surface pressure got down as low as 994-995 across region during highest peak gusts. I would definitely say it’s not close to Hanukkah eve. 

Peak cross gradient for this storm looks to be +10.2mb.

Hanukkah Eve (Dec 14th 2006) PDX-BLI was +22.3mb, also this storm had a 976.4mb landfall just W/NW of Tofino, B.C.

Still no sign of the warming SST's in the ENSO regions people have been talking about.  Subsurface says cold ENSO for a while to come.  Latest for Nino 3.4 is -1.048.

Pretty hard to ignore this when looking at the prospects going forward.  The Pacific is going to be mostly shut down.

I am not sure. I did just hear two loud booms to my northeast and sure enough we have more outages. PGE now 25,810 without power.

Ended up with 2.22 inches of rain yesterday! We had ONE 32mph gust of wind. Lights didn't even flicker. Color me disappointed. 

I don't have strong memories of many past storms, like a lot of yall, but I DO remember the Inaugural Day Storm. I don't remember what year it was, but I was in elementary school, so 90s sometime?  I remember standing at the bus stop, and a tree came down right by us, blocking the road in our neighborhood. We were without power for quite a long time.

Watching the upcoming chilly spill kind of get whittled down to nothing on the models has been fun. A pleasure we rarely get to experience when it comes to heat events!

Also nice to see PDX sneak in a 60 yesterday. I was getting worried there might be a month this year that they didn’t. December/January are usually a lock for multiple 60+ days so this was probably their best shot.

I saw this one, we had been hanging out at a friend's farm north of Athens Ga and were headed home when the sky lit up.  I happened to be looking in that general area and caught it in my peripheral vision.  Sadly this is the only one I've seen, but it was cool to eventually learn the rest of the story.
