Washington county sucks for the most part for snow, Clackamas a close second just south of Foster or so on 205 it usually turns to crap, unless you are on Mt. Not trolling here... but I did a little mental escapism driving over Lake Washington with rain pounding on the windshield in the dark at 4:20 pm... pictured a sunny summer day on the water and the lake full of boats and seemingly endless daylight. Brightened my mood. But I also don't want what is left of my snow to melt and want more! I am weenie for summer and holiday snow. I can relate to this. I want a long summer in Tahoe (rare) but also want a bomber snow season.

Frontal Snowsquall
I just read this, pretty interesting. Just recently scientists genetically mapped 2 million year old DNA, the worlds oldest ever to be identified and it revealed a different Greenland than we originally thought. ‘Not much lives in the northernmost tip of Greenland today. Some lichens and moss survive in the polar desert, but “almost nothing there of any life, of any significance,” said evolutionary geneticist Eske Willerslev. Yet millions of years ago, a much warmer climate supported an ecosystem that was teeming with a wide diversity of life — and Willerslev has the DNA to prove it. In a study published Wednesday in Nature, Willerslev and his colleagues genetically mapped 2-million-year-old DNA from Arctic sediments — now the world’s oldest DNA to be identified. They discovered evidence of more than 100 plant genera, nine animal taxa including the extinct elephant-like mastodon, and even marine life within the same region.’ ‘Soon, a picture of the ancient forests, bays, flora and fauna came into focus. Yet the results were also puzzling — many of the uncovered animals and plants didn’t seem to make ecological sense. Plants and animals that are typically found in the Arctic were in the same ecosystem as those found in boreal forests further south. One abundant plant genus was dryas, which is typically found in the Arctic. Yet the team also found poplars, deciduous trees usually found in boreal forests. Perhaps the most surprising discovery was the mastodon, a hairy relative of the elephant that has long been associated with boreal forests in North America. Willerslev said no one had speculated the mammal would travel so far north, but maybe it traveled across the ice with the reindeer.‘ https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2022/12/07/greenland-dna-study-mastodon/ 5 1

Way too much model flux and time out in the future for me to be excited about…but it’s always nice seeing it’s possible in the long range. Last week was really fun although it wasn’t a truly solid event like we’ve had several of in recent years. We did pull off a 34/25 day on 12/1 and several decent snow events with snow on the ground for a week. However I’d like to get a decent arctic outbreak with some sub freezing highs and some snow or a big snowstorm out of the next opportunity.

I thought the easterly gradient would keep the cold air from getting scoured out.. 1 Death To Warm Anomalies! For anyone unfamiliar, you negligently leave a wheelbarrow in the yard and allow it to fill with rainwater. When some chilly weather arrives, you magically get ice. I currently have a wheel barrow full of fresh cut rounds and rain water. Could get fun. 1 1 Snowfall Precip 2022-23: 95.0" 2022-23: 17.39" 2021-22: 52.6" 2021-22: 91.46" 2020-21: 12.0" 2020-21: 71.59" 2019-20: 23.5" 2019-20: 58.54" 2018-19: 63.5" 2018-19: 66.33" 2017-18: 30.3" 2017-18: 59.83" 2016-17: 49.2" 2016-17: 97.58" 2015-16: 11.75" 2015-16: 68.67" 2014-15: 3.5" 2013-14: 11.75" 2013-14: 62.30 2012-13: 16.75" 2012-13: 78.45 2011-12: 98.5" 2011-12: 92.67" It's always sunny at Winters Hill!
