Still getting some decent showers moving through here. Amazing to see the ice add up and icicles growing in real time. Watched a neighbor chiseling into his car to get to his scraper, scraped for about 2 minutes and give up and go inside, all while it was continuing to rain.

Amazing it took him two minutes to figure it out.

We've already got a pretty big "it" in the books, but I'm betting you're right.

Attempted to watch the news again…This guy is no Harry or Andy Wappler…Completely unwatchable. They didn’t even have any good car sliding videos to show…Jim Foreman would have been all over it! Also the current outage situation in the county.

Watched a single flight leave SeaTac for SLC about 20 minutes ago on FlightRadar and nothing since. Hope most people trying to get out for holidays were able get out early.

A couple of flights from Asia on approach, but nothing else moving at SeaTac. PDX is really quiet, too. Bizjet just departed for Redmond, but no commercial flights moving at the moment.

EPO and NAO also look to tank around mid January

Definitely some early signs of some more high latitude blocking setting up by the second week of January.

Ensembles showing the Polar Vortex taking a pretty big hit in early January.

Seems like it’s been pretty weak overall this winter so far. where’s Phil, he usually tracks this stuff

Don't know why but this reminded me of the line from Christmas Vacation about Eddy eating squirrels.

26 degrees right now with approximately 0.3 inches of ice. Roads are extremely bad right now. I didn’t want to actually go anywhere with ice on the ground so I was only able to take a picture from our porch.

I would estimate 0.35" on horizontal surfaces on the southwest side of town.  Was fun to dig out the studded shoe grippers I got for the Grand Canyon a few years back and go for a walk around the neighborhood.

Trees all look surprisingly OK.  Something about the way this fell, or maybe the small size of the drizzly drops, made it only accumulate on the top of twigs rather than encasing them in a circle of ice.  They seem to collect a lot less weight that way.

I was initially worried about the trees going into this but was happy to see very minimal if any damage done on the trees near me :)

27.3 and temp rising slowly and linearly.  Extrapolation of the line puts us above freezing at 6 pm.  Though I'm expecting to get a sudden warmup at some point.

Good morning! Same story as a lot of you: about 1/4 inch of ice and it's still drizzling. Took the dog out and the yard/walkways were almost impassable. Our only saving grace was the texture of the crunched up ice from our previous footsteps. He was NOT a fan. Grateful we still have power and no obvious signs of tree damage. Temp around 30.

GEM also looks windy next week. Could be very bad for the trees, dealing with ice and then potentially a windstorm. I do want to experience a strong windstorm at some point though

Careful what you wish for. I still remember the windstorm of '62. Different then an ice storm. You can stay home in an ice storm and be inconvenienced if the electricity goes out and dodge the occasional tree falling. A strong windstorm can attack you inside your home blowing windows out, massive trees falling in all directions, power out for days. I was seven years old and still have vivid memories of that experience.

Back to a freezing drizzle. 29 degrees. Looks like we'll avoid a worst case scenario here, as the radar still looks fairly anemic.

2022-23 Winter:

11/29: .25" + 1" = 1.25" | 11/30: .25"

12/2: .2" + .5" = .7" | 12/3: .2" | 12/4: trace

12/18: .4" | 12/19: .2" + .8" = 1.0" | 12/20: .2 + 1.5" = 1.7

1/31: trace | 2/14: trace | 2/22: .2 | 2/26: 1.0"

Total: 6.7"

Looks like it stayed sleet all night, almost looks like a little snow mixed in at some point too. 6229F95A-9CEF-4B1A-AF5F-37203F01BF1C.thumb.jpeg.cd6c3dae49aef80dffdcb01b633138f1.jpeg

I'm about 4 miles north of Redland, zero snow.  Had a little sleet then a very light coating of ZR overnight.  Crusty out but not much overall.  Thankful we didn't get a lot of ZR.  Had everything ready for power outages but so far so good.  '21 we were 13 days without power.  No fun even with a generator.

What's your elevation?  I'm at 315.  We get warm nosed a lot here.  Surprised you had snow.  Not  single flake here.  I have a friend who lives off Lower Highland Rd, upper Beavercreek at 1,200ft and no snow.  Crazy microclimates.  25f and drizzle right now.
