That -NAO is going to keep on chugging. Should keep Arctic air on standby if the Pacific block wants to reorganize more favorably.

Funny how in the long range the GFS and Euro end up in basically the same place.

Just thinking the same thing.

ECMWF solution is dependent on the block racing northward to the north pole while the GFS just shows a run-of-the-mill GOA ridge.

-10c 850mb temps to SEA is less than 120 hours away. The Euro doesn't miss often within this range especially when it has been fairly consistent run after run like this. I still have no idea if we're really going to get these unhinged temps on the 00z GEM and Euro but I'm pretty sure the cold is happening, top tier or not.

Yep, until the block retrogrades into NE-Siberia.

Then the NAO wanes and the pacific jet begins to extend again. But based on history there should be another multiweek period of heavy blocking (-NAO again) in February!

This is the beginning of the great Polar migration.  the North Pole will relocate to around Nelson, BC.  we will be in the dome.  the arctic as we know it will melt. the PNW will become uninhabitable within 10-15 years.  the new ice age starts next week.  I can't believe Tonga actually pulled it off

Though I have my degree I don't have a job in the industry yet. This, PDX weather analysis and the Oregon AMS are great ways to stay connected.
