Feels like COVID is over now with people gathering again.   Waiting for fireworks on an absolutely perfect evening.

I'll admit even though I'm originally from the area, I haven't spent too much time west of the Cascades since 2018, other than a week in Renton last summer.  But I still feel these type of things should be taken account of in scientific manner rather than random observations.  We literally have inmates running the asylum proclaiming we need to start riding bikes, stop eating beef and eat more Cicadas and pay carbon taxes to the IMF, based on what exactly?

A stricter adherence to the scientific method could put a halt to the lunacy...

The planet is dying... despite being through endless cycles of warm and cold for billions of years.   Probably felt like the planet was dying when what is now Seattle was buried in 3,000 feet of ice just 15,000 year ago.  That was pretty rough on the trees too.  Very depressing viewpoint.

Hate to add to the doom and gloom on here... but there was a fatal accident on Highway 97 today between Sunriver and La Pine. Just a few minutes after I drove through that spot on the way to Newberry Volcano today, it happened. Condolences and prayers to the families of those involved in the crash.

Stay safe out there, guys.

City banned fireworks so the neighborhood show is starting up. I’ve only heard one fire engine so far.

Overcast for most of the day here but it’s wonderful and feels so nice. The marine layer feels nice!

This > Heat

LE presence is heavy here with them patrolling and constantly reminding people not to light fireworks. So bonfire works!

It's 81 at KRNT and only 76 at SEA... only a couple miles apart.

KRNT been running warmer on days like these for most part. Even during the heatwave RNT runs a few degrees warmer than SEA. It’s normal. Then you have BFI which been running about 2-3 degrees cooler than SEA. Weird thing is, I live about a mile away from the airport on top of a hill so I’m more exposed and run 4-5 degrees warmer than BFI…. Closer to RNT temps.

Yeah it’s insane even around my area which is usually fairly quiet on the 4th. Going to be a tense night, hopefully no fires start around here. People just do not have any common sense anymore.

The GEM gets really interesting on this run.  Very amplified blocking offshore forces a nice deep trough over us.  The GFS ain't bad either.

This year was exceptionally busy on the fireworks front. Prob because the pandemic shut so much of it down in 2020.

Air quality is s**t right now. Thick smog.

00Z ECMWF looks weaker with the troughing in the 7-10 day period.   Its still around 80 on day 10 with a trough to the north that is not in a hurry to move south.     The coolest day is actually Thursday.   But both Wednesday and Thursday look like they might end up close to normal with marine layer clouds slow to clear.

Absolutely nuts Independence Day here.  Fireworks nonstop, over a 1,000 people crowded into a small city park, no police guiding traffic, and people lit a park bush on fire with their sparklers.... Absolutely nuts.  Thankfully a Park Ranger came (after all the damage) and kicked the remaining people out.  Traffic was so bad and I've never seen so many people crammed into a park to watch a fireworks show and illegally set off fireworks themselves.  Cars parked in front of cars, blocking cars, illegally parked on the road (like in the road), and some parking on people's lawns.  Happy 4th.

Something that isn't good though is a new-ish wildfire is expanding in Douglas County, Washington and is requiring some people to be evacuated.  Let's hope we have no home loss.  I will keep monitoring this as well.  Doesn't seem to be a big smoke maker, but that is the least of my concerns when people's livelihoods are involved.  This photos are from late in the afternoon Sunday.  This is north of Rock Island and east of Pangborn Memorial Airport.  This fire was sparked from unknown reasons, but clearly the dry weather isn't helping.
