It accumulated a bit out there. But some melted off now. Still wet snow as I type. There was nearly 3/4" and so today puts this season at exactly 4.00". Not impressive for Christmas Eve.

 

It is in the upper 30's so I doubt any further moisture adds to the snow.

 

Interestingly, KLMT just reads "light rain" pretty much all morning. Sometimes I get more than the airport.

yeah but lesser systems sliding to the southeast have done a lot for the pdx metro area also. This looks like our best shot at cold weather so far this winter. I know that isn’t saying a lot.

Yeah, I hiked up some of the Wonderland Trail past Carter Falls at Rainier last weekend. Was nice and there was a couple feet at that elevation. No falling snow though, will have to time it to get some one of these trips.

Spent yesterday on a little, but very long trip from Salem down the southern Oregon coast with my oldest daughter (who is home on break from UW)

 

Went to Shore Acres park, just south of Coos Bay to watch the breakers. Hit a 9' plus high tide late morning. If you have never seen these waves hit the shore in person, I highly recommend it. Will try to post pictures later when my daughter gets them organized. The lookout is above the rocks about 100 feet. Some of the waves were breaking a good 50 feet above our vantage point. Got wet a few times. Google images for Shore Acres and you'll see what I am talking about.

 

Went out to Cape Blanco where the "breeze" was blowing about 50mph (just for you K12!) and the 2nd most western point on the continental US.

 

Finished up with a cup of chowder in Crescent City, CA and a trip through the Redwoods before making the long drive North.

 

I had forgotten how stunning that stretch of the Oregon Coast is, especially with a large swell train battering every outcropping and sea stack.

Going east works in the warm season too... does wonders whether you are craving snow or sun.

Shore Acres is gorgeous and the history behind the place is fascinating. Great stretch of coastline.

Although with the strong Nino, there was decent STJ activity so the places that benefit from that were really snowy (like Denver). This winter hasn't even had that yet.

Sad thing about when the water comes up is how much garbage I see floating down the river. A lot of it probably from the homeless camps that line the banks of the Willamette during the summer. The homeless are a walking ecological disaster.

I hate people that litter. I have a major problem with it. The fine for throwing garbage out car window should be 50k.

You should have seen the "compounds" that I saw in Josephine County yesterday off HWY 199. Made homeless camps look like 5 star hotels!
