They also have a National Park (Indiana Dunes), which a lot of people don't know about. With some scenic shoreline.

What a tribute to American industry.

Hoosier Natl forest is over 200K acres or slightly larger than the 2020 Beachie Creek Fire.

Side note... it might seem better elsewhere but that is not the reality.    It's basically the same everywhere.   People struggle to get by... the government can't get anything done... the weather can be destructive and cruel.  I bet there are lots of people in Indiana who think it's the worst place in the world.   And you will likely be one of them after a year or two of living there.

On the bright side we live in the easiest and safest period humanity has ever known and in one of the better countries.

Very true. We just have more spare time to think about how miserable we are and more technology with which to disseminate our misery.

They certainly could have been much colder. Look at what the temperatures were in the 1950s when we had a similar PDO/ENSO combo.

Last winter wasn’t snowy for everyone, I didn’t get a single event over 1 inch. The arctic air masses clearly aren’t as cold as they used to be.

Well, as you said earlier, there's more to it than PDO/ENSO. 1998-2001 had very low both, but did not produce the level of lowland winters we've seen recently.

Do you know if Lytton has been rebuilt after the 2021 fire?

The part of town that burned has not been rebuilt.  It took a long time to clean up the mess as there was a lot of toxic remediation that had to be done.  Now it seems like a bunch of government red tape BS

Down to a bone chilling 86. Thankfully today will likely be the hottest day of the year in western WA. Sun angles are decreasing…and the real high end heat potential window is closing. Some warm days coming up this week but overall in just a few weeks hopefully we will be kicking into fall.

Topped out at 89 again today and we are down to 80 now.  My neighbor was asking me all kinds of questions about my A/C the other day, what it did to my power bill, etc.  Last August we took about an $80 hit, but most months in the summer its only about $30-50  He said his summer power bill increased by the same amount with the 2 window units he has.  He has a 2,800 sq ft house like I do, so he is only cooling a couple of rooms with those suckers.

See, this is just wrong. Worldwide, most places are NOT seeing the sort of summer warming the PNW has seen the past 10 years, and most places are not seeing the smokefests either.

This is the problem with conflating local climate changes with AGW.

Yeah, there’s some kind of collective psychosis going on here. It’s like people forgot how to do basic math and instead parrot meritless rhetoric from politically poisoned dimwits.

My favorite part of being a Mariners fan is that our wins are convincing, no-doubt, solid victories. It's nice knowing that our team plays consistent baseball and it puts my heart at ease being certain that we have a game in the bag. I have never doubted this Mariners team, ever. And I have no reason to, with this magnificient team that gives me no stress at all.

I don't think the earthquake that will destroy everything is extremely depressing since it probably won't happen in our lifetime.    And the other two were probably not high on the list of the people taking the survey.  ;)

It very well could happen in your lifetime.

You literally posted a map showing my area has been colder than normal and then scolded me for doubting it.    Now I assume anything under 90 must be colder than normal.    Because its basically been sunny and warm since late April with the exception of that 4-day June mega-trough.

At least Arctic air and snowfall happen with regularity each winter.

Frequent thunderstorms is an equally significant difference. One of the prime spots for MCS/Derecho tracks.

Thank you. Some of the predictions in that paper are looking good, others not so much.

  • We're almost midway through the 2020s, and PNW temps have not gone up 2F overall from the 1970-2000 baseline.
  • Average 4/1 snowpack was supposed to decrease by 28% by the 2020s...nope

Random chance when a month runs cold, but sure fire sign of nothing but AGW when it runs hot...hmm.

Still waiting for the explanation of why recent winters would have been much colder/snowier if not for AGW.

I'm on the same page with you on this.

I am a little cranky because its been close to 100 degrees at my high mountaintop estate here looking down on Mt Rainier and Mt Baker.   No idea how that is even possible.   And this ridge was supposed to be nothing... gone in a flash like all of our summer ridges.   🤨

Definitely one of the coolest, cloudiest Julys I can remember out here.   The sun was only shining like 90% of the time.  It makes sense that its on the 'coolest' side of the ledger on that map legend.
