And may I add that it's not just about preferences. it's about long-term deviation from climatology and the effect on local ecosystems. The decade-long drought and stressed ecology down here are a real thing, and I would have thought it had been discussed enough on these pages that folks up north would be a bit more understanding when those of us who are dealing with it become distressed at yet more under-performing storms and dry model runs.

Lol love it how some people in Oregon assume everyone in Washington is totally dismissive about the drought down there when many of us had our concerns about it even up here…as if we’re the “enemy” or something. Plenty of people who love rain up here myself included. You’re missing my point nobody’s denying there’s a drought we’re all well aware of it…just very annoying when we’re in the middle of a rain event…coming off a top 10 wet month for September…and the models show a decent amount of rain coming even down there and a certain someone’s acting like they live in a desert. Just constantly gripping about it as if there hasn’t been significant improvement in the drought situation the last month. Just because I’m saying that he’s being annoying doesn’t mean we don’t understand there’s a drought going on. Not sure how else to explain it. Dumb that I even have to give a long explanation like this.

Possibly interesting to some on here…  There’s a book and movie called The Lathe of Heaven set in a dystopian Portland Oregon. It’s about a guy whose dreams change reality and only he knows reality has changed. He sees a psychiatrist who figures out that his dreams change reality and tries to influence the guy’s dreams.  It rains constantly (like never stops) in dystopian Portland and one of the things the psychiatrist suggests to the guy is that it stops raining.  When the guy wakes up, Portland is a desert.

Not suggesting that any of this explains the drought situation in Oregon.  But it’s a pretty good movie if you like that kind of thing.

Seems almost impossible, doesn’t it? I would love a 13”, 10”, 9” Nov, Dec, Jan or something like that. I would take much more too, but I’m trying to be somewhat grounded in the realm of possibility.

This morning's low of 29.7 is my first freeze of the season, about 2 weeks ahead of average. Average is October 29th, and this is the 2nd earliest first freeze we have recorded.
2019 was the earliest, on October 1st, and by the 12th we had already recorded four 32- lows.
The 29.7 also breaks the daily record of 34, also set in 2019.

Interesting trend there.

Oregon and CA need rain so badly. In the winter I spend half my weather time watching for storms for NorCal so my parents area can get some rain. There's a well known weather site for CA weather and whenever a good storm comes, the excitement and comments roll in. It's like their version of snow events here. So growing up there gave me an appreciation for rain and praying/dancing for rain from Oct-April. But snow is really fun if you aren't traveling.

43F and raining currently after a high of 52F and a low of 33F. It's not every mid October day you have rain in the low 40s and it certainly feels like winter out there.

You should have moved a little farther north!    Wettest decade ever up here... and 8 out of 10 years have been wetter than normal.     If you bought property out here you could have experienced more than 1,000 inches of rain in the last decade!    No joke.  You never need to worry about rain here.   😀

Second consecutive day staying below freezing here. I'd like to say that it feels like winter but October cold seems to be the new norm out this way over the last couple of years.

The snowstorm lasted from late afternoon on 2/11 though early afternoon on 2/12.     And I am pretty sure the entire area out here got 3 feet in that period... even down in the valley.   There was no difference between North Bend and here... hence the need for the National Guard down there.

By mid afternoon on 2/12... the accumulating snow was done here as the upper levels warmed up enough.    I am sure it was a 24-hour event.

That's pretty insane. For some reason my memory was that it lasted a bit longer than that but it's been harder to keep track of events since I moved out here.

.18” so far on the day.
We were still boating in 80 degree weather just a couple weeks ago…Seems like a very distant memory.

State of emergency declared and NGs were called in for North Bend and Monday night alone, the city received 15-24 of snow. It was way too much.

Yeah... not sure about the precise measurements.   There was so much wind down in the valley that it was probably impossible to get accurate snow totals.   But up here the wind was much less of an issue and we easily had more than 3 feet on the ground.

The first part has me in shambles lol... "the enemy"? I don't think anyone's even insinuating that, it's simply about anecdotal experiences methinks. Though yes, I'd agree to an extent the pessimism gets grating, it's undeniable the current drought, even after the improvement we have had, is indicative of a rather stark N/S gradient as far as rainfall goes. Just my two cents. I suppose it's all about the experience.

I’m sure it was well over 3’ in a 24 hour period if 2’ fell alone during a single night. Drifts also happened so it was hard to determined exact amount that fell.
