Did anyone cut you off while you were typing this?

Yeah and of course they had the nerve to honk at me. I’m so sick of a******* complaining about my driving. I’ve always driven BETTER while arguing about rain on my phone with strangers.

Got down to 29 last night with a very heavy frost this morning.  Beautiful day here yesterday.

My son wrecked his new car yesterday (he was at fault, and by his own admission made a total bonehead rookie mistake) so he is back to driving his 22 year old, 300k mile Subaru to work.  His new car defrosted the windshield really fast, especially compared to the old one, so one more way he is "paying the price" for his lapse in judgement with the heavy frost.

He was not hurt, and the car should be fixable with front quarter panel and bumper damage.  Afterwards he said "thanks for being cool about this" and I chucked and said "I'm being cool about it because its not on my dime"

I remember my one and only wreck vividly…It was completely my fault and to this day I still get mad at myself about it. It was the week before 9/11 and I totaled my less than one year old SUV. I had to go back to driving my very first car, the 1975 El Camino for a while… that thing would fog up on a 90 degree zero humidity day. It was a nightmare that fall before I was finally able to move on and get a new vehicle. I had MetLife insurance at the time and their main building was damaged during the twin towers collapse so that really slowed down claims. That accident made me a MUCH better driver though so there is that!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Some of the driving I have seen on an everyday basis is scary.

A few years back, when I saw the girl in the Subaru behind me winging her eyeliner while doing a left turn, I thought at that moment I had seen everything and promptly switched lanes out of fear.

Yess queen, distracted driving 💅

Looking at the 925mb chart shows that we have our first Columbia Basin cold pool of the season manifesting itself as High Pressure settles over the area. This is quite common from November to February as inversions strengthen coupled with a much lower sun angle, less solar power. Where as the cold pool is not too impressive around -1c to -3c, but it will probably growing stronger mid-week as temperatures aloft warm over western Oregon. This affects our sensible weather locally with east winds and sunshine, but for those locations stuck under the cold pool air stagnation and pollutants become trapped with air stagnation advisories often issued. It looks like this pattern remains in place through the end of the weekend and then the ridge breaks down next Monday-Tuesday.

12:35 PM Pressure Gradients - UPDATE
Easterly gradients have increased substantially over the past 6-8 hours and are now approaching moderately strong criteria. It is breezy throughout most of the PDX/Vancouver metro area, but it's much windier east of I-205 and near/in the Gorge. The wind will really ramp up this evening lasting through Tuesday. It seems a good bet we'll see PDX/TTD-DLS exceed -9mb and maybe -10mb. I wouldn't be surprised if a Wind Advisory ends up being issued east of I-205. It's going to be a difficult nights sleep.

12 PM
[Gorge/Gap Gradients]
PDX-DLS
: -7.9mb
TTD-DLS: -7.7mb
[Cross Cascade Gradients]
PDX-YKM
: -8.3mb
PDX-MWH: -8.1mb
PDX-GEG: -6.8mb
OTH-GEG: -11.5mb
*Legend: PDX = Portland, DLS = The Dalles, TTD = Troutdale, YKM = Yakima, MWH = Moses Lake, GEG = Spokane, OTH = North Bend
A -Negative value denotes easterly/northerly flow
A +Positive value denotes westerly/onshore flow

What's a Pressure Gradient?
A pressure gradient measures the difference in Barometric Pressure between two locations. For example, PDX pressure is currently 30.35 in and The Dalles is 30.57 in. Higher pressure at The Dalles and lower pressure at Portland induces an east wind through the Gorge.

Up to 47 after a low of 27. This has been a pretty solid cold snap for me for the first half of November. Had my 8th freeze in a row this morning.

Reminded me of this classic. Think this went viral like 10 years ago.  Fun fact, I took the girl on the left to a school dance.

The girl without the massive wiener in her mouth? She looks like she was very pretty!
