Late January, specifically.

When was the last good late January? Sometime in the 1980s?

The big Jan 2012 event, which dumped 1-2' over a good section of SW WA and lesser but still heavy amounts further north, happened in the latter half of January.

Last region-wide Arctic event in late January was 1996. Though the second part of the January 2007 events did stretch into the second half of the month, barely.

EUG hasn't had a back half of Jan snowstorm in a long time.  Going even further back than these.  Gonna have to look it up when the last time there was a significant late Jan snow event here.

Memorable January’s for me...

First snow memory that was either ‘79 or ‘80 but it was very cold with snow up to my waist. I was around 4yrs old.

The others are ‘96, ‘07, and ‘12. Sooo not many in my lifetime. Many more in November, December, February, and even March!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Looks like you have to go back to Jan of 1975 to find a snow event of any significance during that timeframe. And that was a sloppy, borderline event that melted quickly it appears. Otherwise, you have to go back to Jan 1969...insane, and utterly pathetic how bush league late Jan has been.

There was a big snowstorm there late January 2008. Over 6" for sure...I wanna say close to a foot in spots.

I thought you were forecasting a wetter period in December

A possible rainy period. I admit wasn’t 100% sure.

Phil says many things.

I think I’ve been fairly consistent. For now at least.

Still calling for a cold, -PNA December?

That event was somewhat marginal for the floor, probably 3 or 4 inches. Fortunately for me, I was living at 750' at the time and got about 9 inches.

Tough luck. Seems like most of the west metro "scored".

West metro did well with getting good precip rates, I didn't think the surface temp was going to be much of an issue but it actually was. 1-2F colder could have probably given me 2 inches or so but most of that heavy snow fell around 33-34F and struggled to stick. Still amounted to nearly an inch on most surfaces except the road though.

Sounds like you did a lot better than out here, at least. Hard for me to imagine going to bed and missing all of that (especially considering it wasn't even a weeknight) but to each their own.

Yeah I was up late and stayed up to watch all of it. You never know when you'll get your next snow around here. Did the east winds end up eating most of your precip?

Models were pretty consistent in showing that areas closer to the eastern slopes of the coast range would do a bit better than most and it did seem like that is how it worked out. My area didn't really change over from snow until the band had pretty much moved out. Areas to my west like Banks and Manning did even better of course.

So is the consensus things are looking more promising mid-month? Although I know it’ll change.

The EPS doesn't seem to think so but the Druncle wants to give some goodies Albany north...in the clown range.
