Somehow a garbage can made its way onto the 520 and got blown around by the winds causing this rollover. Whomp whomp…

Interesting... komo1000 said Winds blew it over. Thanks for the Real back-storey. I didn't feel the winds were that too unusual

BULLSHIT!

Even during the glory days of the old 520 when winds routinely gusted over 40 mph (before the 15 min sustained cut-off), high profile vehicles navigated E-W just fine without tipping over in gusty winds.

Furthermore this cement truck was confirmed to have a full load in the barrel thus rendering the vehicle even heavier than empty. There's no way this cement truck was toppled over by wind unless it had help from a nearby forklift.

At this point the trends certainly look promising for a chilly and relatively dry interlude for the middle of next of week.  A lot of places should see frost and possibly the first freeze of the season.

Would be nice to just be locked into a cold n/nw flow the entire winter?

There are a few winter that were cold pretty much throughout.  1916-17, 1921-22, 1948-49, 1955-56, 1978-79, 1984-85, and a few others.  It's really hard to pull off cold Nov - Feb though.

PDX still +6.5. For how much this pattern change was hyped the temps have been largely pretty average. But going from record warm to average is still a pretty big shift.

Yeah...the temps in the lowlands haven't been super impressive because of the cloudy nights.  The mountains have been cold which has resulted in Chinook Pass having it's second earliest closure on record.  This was a pretty dramatic shift.

I have to agree.  Maybe the driver was embellishing the story a bit.

It really is a remarkable difference for locations not really that far apart. For most of W. WA I'd say it lived up to the hype with a decent departures from average but not so much for PDX.

Wind! I had all things weather today, took a drive to Wenatchee and back for work today. Was light rain snow mix at the top of Stevens early this morning, sun and fairly warm in Wenatchee, lots of soldering stumps along the burn area just west of Skykomish, and wind back at home. Apparently the power dropped a few times for a few seconds at the house but didn’t stay out. The color between Leavenworth and the pass was lovely.

What was he trying to embellish? If you go back and read a bit, you can see that he tried to dodge a rolling garbage can that caused the truck to roll over. The only organization doing any kind of embellishing was KOMO radio saying the the truck rolled over due to high winds.

2016-2017 over here was the most prolonged cold of my life in any winter. A repeat of that would be bitter sweet.

It would make my entire winter if Judah ended up with a goose egg snow total. No matter how much snow we get. Though that’s kind of a stretch since Boston still got a foot in their least snowiest winter.

As we move into November I think we are right on the cusp of either seeing an atmospheric river event(loads of rain), or perhaps an early November cold shot. It all depends on the block of high pressure over the Gulf of Alaska and where exactly does it set up at.

I think we'll see both next month.
