October 2022 PNW weather Discussion. + Ultimate Leg Reveal Extravaganza

Today was pretty glorious, except for everything is so dry and dusty, and the air was quite hazy. Was 70 up here around 3:30 and 66 down in Silverton. See how tough the inversion can hang in the valley this week, I guess it’s supposed to wane quite a bit. Nws says 83 at Salem tomorrow. Only made 73 today.

Genuinely do not recall such a prolific smoke producer so late in the season. At least not so close and in a long while.

Pretty incredible amount of smoke looks to continue in OR/WA for the foreseeable future as well. I can't remember it ever being that bad in October during all my time there.

I second that Ichabod Crane! When the rains start, and they will, I hope they don’t stop until at least the 4th of July next year and it’s a cool and damp summer. We are due anyways, so why not make it next summer?

Wonder if we can get ski season going in mid-November this year.

I highly doubt that. Maybe if we can get some cold going beforehand for a week or two and they can make some artificially. It’s only October 6th so maybe it will happen. Not according to Tim, cough cough, I mean the Eps.

Because it’s frustrating to see you stare reality in the face and refuse to acknowledge it. I apologize if I’m coming off uncivil.

Here's reality. Summer was hot and it hasn't rained in forever. That's reality.

What do we know? Nothing. We don't know what will happen the rest of this month, this winter or next Summer. We can look at models and conditions and discuss how we think it might play out, but we just don't know.

We don't know how this triple dip La Nina will play out. We could set record with temp and snow. I've always said 1950 happened once and it can happen again.

Jim is just passionate and loves weather. There's nothing wrong with that.

What's really frustrating? Someone posting something from the GFS and believe it. Or someone from here or social media killing the vibe because it's doing it's own thing and someone "well i'm not sold yet because the GFS isn't in agreement". It's fun to look it, but we all know that needs to be decommissioned and burned.

Yeah I am so over this.  It's about a 50/50 chance of smelling like a campfire when I walk outside, and there is a permanent haze in the air....reminds me of smoggy hazy days in the summer in Atlanta during the 70's and 80's.

I wish the Colts would stop self-destructing.    This is a battle of terrible teams.

I am deriving way too much pleasure watching RW fail.  I loved the pick in the end zone with 2 minutes left.  Too bad it wasn't a pick-6.

First day back home and my body clock is off. Ended up sleeping through the sunset  but I suppose that was a good thing.  I was going to do a sunset walk at Redondo to get back into my routine but just read in social media the areas closed due to a shooting :(

Beautiful photos

Yeah have been doing my research on the route I’ll be taking through there. Those are definitely on the list bear spray too.

Just don’t get the kind that comes in red cans. I have tried it and it was horrible! Smarted like I had rubbed hot peppers all over my skin, and it did not attract a single bear!

I don’t know much about you Jim except I think you’re in your mid 50’s and when I read your posts, that I enjoy btw, I think of a 17 year old talking sometimes. No harm intended. Jesse just points it out the most. You are the wishcaster whisperer. It’s fun to read.

Its really warm this evening here... bouncing around the mid to upper 60s.  I see one station just east of North Bend is still at 70.   I was down in North Bend about an hour ago and it was much cooler down there.   There is a light east wind up here and in the moonlight it looks like the smoky haze has cleared out for now... the mountains look much more clear than they did this afternoon.

I didn't realize it before, but October 1988 was one of the top 3 most meridional (warm West / cold East) Octobers in the period of record (1895 to present).
