My grandparents would get the lake house Living room up to near 90 when they retired and lived there full time back in the 80’s and 90’s. I remember it actually felt really nice!

My wife's dad was always obsessed with wood stove heating in the winter... and with cutting and stacking firewood perfectly all summer.

It would be like -10 outside and 90+ degrees in living room when we were opening presents for Christmas and everyone was sweating.  I remember sitting by a window and cracking it open just to breathe... eventually he would catch me and I would get in trouble.  😀

No wonder you like 100 degrees weather. Your grandparents raised you to be a satanic heat miser!

The sun sets down there about 25 minutes later than Seattle in December... and 15 minutes later than Portland.    Not a big difference.   And you aren't getting much vitamin D there from November-February even when its sunny all day.   The low sun angle limits it.

But I get the mental aspect of sunny days and pleasant temps.

I am good with November-February being stormy up here.   We get more sun than you probably think in the winter.     Depends on the pattern.   I start feeling it if we go through April and May and it's still cloudy and damp on most days.    Nothing much bothers me in winter here and traveling warm sunny places breaks it up nicely.

Yes, but the sun rises almost an hour later here.

I know.  He said he didn't want to live in a place where it gets dark at 4:30 but it gets dark at 4:45 down there.

Here it comes! Here comes that unseasonably early November cold shot that was once looking very cold only to then look fairly cold only to be watered down to very chilly air mass! We've all said it at some point in our lives, but imagine if the trough was centered 200-300 miles further east.

At one point it was a steak. Then it became meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Now it's a meal off the kid's menu. I suppose some fish sticks and a few tater tots will have to be good enough. Where is the Gorton's Fisherman these days?

Made it to the cabin.  Fire is stoked, beer, pizza, ready for the snow storm tomorrow.  10 to 16 inches forecast for Winthrop.  Lot of friends thought I was crazy to drive over from the west side for one night but I wanted to be here for the first big snow fall.  Going to watch football tomorrow and enjoy the day and head home after dinner.IMG_20221105_152808.thumb.jpg.b2c9d2bfb32f58d12ddf1ef9cce922eb.jpgIMG_20221105_193805.thumb.jpg.f26fca38869c5a14d4ef2c2dd5c26e89.jpg

Doesn't exactly look like an above normal month in the works.  Also...the EPS shows every single day being below normal over the next two weeks for the Western Lowlands.

This makes three members that have cabins somewhere in the Okanogan!   I'm a tad jealous.

Not surprised.  I think SEA has like 4:07 or 4:17 or something like that.

I think that's because the stove dries the air out so much.  I love my stove.

Down to 12 at Prince George now.  There will be some cold air available to spill into Bellingham.  This thing is still going to be decent for this time of year.

Indeed. East 20 Pizza is the best. And Old School House Brewery for beer. The Pizza place has it on tap, so one stop for both

The best! East 20 Pizza and Old School House Brewery both in Winthrop and 10 to 15 minutes from the cabin. The Pizza place has the beer on tap so just one stop. :)

I'll enjoy a night without the kids or wife and stay well hydrated while I await the snow storm tomorrow

OSB is my go-to for good food that isn't pizza. That's the dream, having a cabin out there. Methow Valley is my (and my wife's) favorite part of the state. We've spent too much time there to not have property!

I'm glad you got that generator.  I recently had power restored and have been inspecting the damage.  Tons of tree limbs, leaves, and junk everywhere.  Nothing some cleaning couldn't solve.  I noticed earlier this morning the PUD website went down when I was trying to find outage info.  Opposite of you, I've only ever lost power at this house once before.  I don't have a generator but probably should invest in one just in case.

Chilly in the house, down to about 64F with no heat on since the power went out.  I honestly didn't think I'd have power most of the day.

Again thanks everyone for all the info and updates last night.  I'm gonna go back and read it all.

I rarely lose power  but I don't have a secondary heat source.  I have gas heat, and so I only need enough juice to run the blower motor.  I got a 2800 W Honda generator that I can run my furnace on in the winter, and the fridge in the summer.  We actually had to use it this summer when the power went out for about 8 hours.

I will definitely look into those.  Space is also a concern as I don't have a lot of space to store it.   Thank you.

Lastly, the Snohomish River is pouring out TONS of debris, silt, and mud from the heavy rains the past few days.  You can see it's muddy water actually changing the color of Port Gardner here.  Pretty impressive to see.  Doesn't happen too often as the water from the river is usually clean.

On my property I only lost a top portion of a cedar, otherwise just a mess of branches and leaves.

What about the tree that Phil is so obsessed with?  Is it still hanging on?
