Salem has dropped to 24 now. Dew point still 12, so could drop some more. Pdx could still hit 19.

I used to listen to the weather radio at work growing up. Me and my brother were laughing about it. I had a small radio I would keep in my pocket and I left it on all day.  During a snow event I would pace back and forth waiting for that 2:40 update. The marine forecast would come out first and that was always the first clue of the new forecast.  I miss those days, the doppler radar removed a bunch of exciting times in a way.

I always listened to my weather radio... and remember knowing when all the local newscasts were on because it was the only time I could see the radar.

I really miss Walter Kelly.  I always felt like you could tell how much he loved and geeked out over weather here.

He was a bit too goofy for me, the Jimmy Fallon of local weather forecasting. His excitement did seem genuine though.

Walters a super nice guy I met him when I was like 12 years old. My moms friend apparently knew Walter Kelly and surprised me and my brother by getting to meet him at the Q13 station when almost nobody was there. We were so shocked!

He was super cool early on but over time, he seemed like he got told to stop with the excitement and chill out a bit. Or maybe he just mellowed out. I think he's in Arizona now.

He was one of my favorites too, I could tell he toned down his excitement for our winter events though. Being a met for Arizona weather sounds real boring unless you live in Flagstaff.

Moderate sleet now, can confirm there is no snow mixed in at all. 100% sleet. The ground is starting to turn white.

I hope we can hold off on the ZR transition as long as possible.

These winds with any ZR are gonna cause a real mess

Ran into him in a bar in magnolia many years back when Oregon was playing ASU. Gave him some crap for being a ducks fan then talked with him for a while and grabbed a pic. Must have been on one of the phones I tossed or lost before the cloud because I can’t find it. Bummer.

I just looked him up and realized he was at Q13 for 23 years. That makes me feel old.

In summary of the professional meterologists in the area.  Cold bias, warm bias, neutral whatever.  We can all agree on one thing!!!

When they try to explain how badly they missed a forecast, they can sound a whole hell of a lot like Vanilla Ice when he tried to explain that "Ice Ice Baby" wasn't a rip-off of David Bowie's "Under Pressure".

I tried watching the news the last few days (mostly for the cars slipping on ice) and it’s nearly unwatchable these days. The reporters remind me of SNL characters and the “meteorologists” do not have that same vibe like the ones I grew up with. Unwatchable.

Yeah, to be honest I haven't watched the evening news in probably a decade and a half. But growing up, that was the go to source for weather info. Until cable internet arrived...

He was my favorite.  Also Harry wapler

Anyone remember Larry Rice on Kiro back in the 90s? Dude would do a “Long Ranger” for the 5 day or 7 day forecast and he definitely had a snow bias. Like the opposite of Rich Marriot
