Radar Update

The next batch of rain to move into the valley later tonight looks much more significant with heavier rainfall rates.

krtx_20231104_0515_BR_0.5.png

Some of those rainfall rates tonight look very impressive. Don’t think I have seen such intense projected rates outside of thunderstorms.

Much improved Euro run if you like active weather, lots of rain, and good dump of mountain snow with even some in the Coast Range. This pattern doesn't resemble El Nino at all. I hope the EPS agrees!

Kind of bizarre that a good 80% of the current analogs are from La Nina years.  Can't wait to see how the next couple of months play out!

The trough the ECMWF is showing for week two is pretty cold, but that seems overdone for sure.

Big retrograde into a +WPO pattern later in the EPS run. That’ll increase vertical wave activity fluxes substantially and begin a modest wave-1 Strat PV response. Still not much Scandinavian High, but it’s early.

Looks like the front is about to come onshore. No lightning strikes right now but there is an elevated level of having thunderstorms today. Looks like we also can see breezy conditions too. It's a fun fall day in the PNW 🤗🌧⛈️

**updated at 5:12am**

I spoke to soon. There are a few lightning strikes out over the ocean.

I normally drive out to Beaverton on Saturday to visit a friend. Driving here was white knuckle all the way. We are having some heavy rain in the Portland area. There is a lot of standing water on the freeways. Be careful if you are driving. Remember, don't hit the breaks, let off the gas pedal and your car will slow down enough for the wheels to hit pavement again. Have a good day...lol

06z was a step back, but overall the trends are positive. If we can pull off a wet month it would be a huge win.

61 for a temp, and 0.48" so far.  Got 0.07" yesterday.  Windy here, my dog the leaf slayer (her favorite past time is shredding leaves) is going nuts with all of the leaves floating down in the back yard.  She started whining and carrying on like was having a bathroom emergency, but alas, it was just a ploy to get outside and chase leaves.

Gonna have to look at repositioning my weather station, the trees behind my house have finally matured to a point that they create a pocket where my station is currently located.  While we were out there, a huge gust came through, but I looked at the anemometer and it was barely moving.  This is where having an all in one station sucks, to get it high enough to get the winds for my terrain puts it way too high for temps, plus that would make it a pain to maintain.

Today seems like a good candidate for a funnel cloud somewhere. Based on the flow, probably somewhere in Clark county.

One of my bosses just moved to the west side of Vancouver, (I think Felida or Lake Shore) and right after they moved, that last round of severe weather moved through (a few weeks ago?  Month ago?).  I warned him that there is something about Clark county and wild weather.

We've had several loud rumbles of thunder here this morning.  A few minutes ago there was one less than a mile way.  My wife said one of our cats jumped about three feet straight up in the air with that.  🤣

I agree 100% with this. I've been a little underwhelmed so far with just over an inch in the last couple days, but would be really excited to see a November that is a couple inches above normal after all the dry weather we've had.

@TigerWoodsLibidoLooks wet for today's kickoff at Autzen Stadium. Going to the game? As a Cal fan, not optimistic today (are we ever lol)? Son still wants to see "the golden ducks" when their hoops team comes here.

Chance of t-storms in my area later this evening. I am enjoying the rain. Thinking the Cougars should adopt a "it never snows at Martin" mantra but that would probably jinx them with an El Nino ongoing.
