Wow what an impressive month. Are these your records? What were months like December 2008 or December 1990 in your area?

Yeah....my records.  I designed that chart on Excel over 20 years ago, and transferred my old records to that and have put everything since in this format.  I'll post the two you asked about a bit later.  I did have a zero low and big snow dump in Dec 1990 and of course 2008 was great.

The 80s coincided with my twenties so a lot of that decade is a bit hazy for me, but November 85 was pretty memorable.

Impossible to forget that.

I actually remember it quite well.  It was only outperformed by January 1969 in my memory banks.

Nice. I was 6 in January 69 so don’t remember it. I have seen a picture of me standing with my dad next to some big snow piles he shoveled from the driveway but no memories of the event.

I was a meter reader for WNG in 1969 and recall having to climb over piles of snow in the middle of the streets in downtown Seattle.

I know most of you ya-hoos on here have never followed nor likely ever come across this local Twitter account. However last night after seven years and nearly four thousand followers, they decided to abruptly shut down the account without any reason nor indication.

For those unaware, this account was an "institution" of sorts throughout western washington going back to the winter of 2015. Their insight coupled with the embedded humour is what made the account so quirky, likable and informative. And it showed in the responses from folks in the tweet thread with many folks expressing their disbelief.

Many were shocked at the news (myself included) and cannot fathom why, all of a sudden, such an established and go-to local weather account would just "go away"?

Especially considering they had some of the biggest name followers across the country in the weather community.

Hopefully they return again.

He's done this before, threatening to leave. Only difference is now he's actually deactivated his account.

He also recently came down with more Covid symptoms, potentially even worse than before.

Talk about a dynamic looking front! This will be our second vigorous front of the Fall season and this one is looking very wet. Note the darkening evident indicative of strong lifting and also the cold air mass pouring in behind the system. You can see it off the south Washington and Northern Oregon Coast with embedded squalls. We could see localized gusty winds this evening, heavy downpours, and perhaps a few isolated lightning strikes.

I was only 4 (almost 5), but I do have one memory of it.  One of my parents opened the front door and the snow was piled very high against it.  Oddly enough I remember my dad thawing pipes with a torch in December of that same winter.

some good shows that Fall too.  Trouble ahead, Jerry in Red

Yeah Jerry was headed for trouble at that point. I saw them in 81 and then a couple times in the 90s. Not sure the music was that great at the 90s shows but a Grateful Dead show was an event either way.

That winter had an almost 19th century vibe to it.  The November cold / snow event was pretty big up your way as well.

It's too bad we don't have official snow measurements at SEA or BLI from the 96 storm.

Have we ever had an AR snow event followed by reinforcing cold, instead of an abrupt warmup? Now that would be something else.

2022-23 Winter:

11/29: .25" + 1" = 1.25" | 11/30: .25"

12/2: .2" + .5" = .7" | 12/3: .2" | 12/4: trace

12/18: .4" | 12/19: .2" + .8" = 1.0" | 12/20: .2 + 1.5" = 1.7

1/31: trace | 2/14: trace | 2/22: .2 | 2/26: 1.0"

Yup.  December 1924.  Major AR started as warm rain, went to snow, and then turned VERY cold for a long time.  Also a decent event in December 1974.  It also appears that Jan 1880 was a huge AR event that was able to mix with enough Arctic air to where it all fell as feet of snow.

BTW...with the 1924 event the Puget Sound region had widespread 6 to 12 inch accumulations.

I'm younger, my first was Charlotte 91.

My uncle always tells me of the wild scene around Halloween 85 in of all places Columbia SC, my hometown.  lol the Dead were run out of town afterwards and banned from SC.  they never played in SC again after that one show.

1990 wasn't an AR snow event, but it did have 2 arctic blasts with a warm-up between IIRC.

Pity I wasn't living up this way then. I still got about 2 feet in Shoreline just north of Seattle, which was insane enough.

I remember hearing at the time that Skagit Valley got about 3 feet total, Bellingham 4, and Victoria 5.
