January 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Yeah, they get an average of 17.8" of snow a year. Amarillo is also labeled the windiest city in the USA according to the Weather Channel. Not to mention the hot summers they get. It will definitely be a place I strongly consider down the road.

I don’t think you need to move all the way to Amarillo to get 17” of snow. Almost all of the populated areas of SW BC get that much or more. Or just move to the foothills around 1000ft. I’m sure Tim easily averages over 30”

I’ve enjoyed Davis weather stations as well for the past 20+ years

Love the Vantage Pro2 currently. I bought the weatherlink as well so the station reports to wunderground as well as my IPad App.

I love wireless but when it comes to winds their is a delay when responding to my iPad. The stand alone console does a great job in reporting currents winds with about a 2 second delay.

If possible I’d go with meteobridge nano instead of WeatherLink. You can do so much more with the former including rapid-firing 5-second updates to wunderground.

Hood River. Had an inch on the ground yesterday when I was there, I think they picked up a couple on Wednesday. Like a westside climate if the winters didn't suck.

Any feedback on Davis Weather stations?

I am considering upgrading to one but I am curious if any of you have experience with them? I currently have a LaCrosse 5:1 (Costco) version that I bought 3 years ago, that posts the data you see in my signature below. I am wondering if the Davis is the right move or if I should consider another brand? Thanks! :)

I have had a vantage Pro II for about 5 years.  Been very good.  My temp sensor did give out and customer service was great helping me with details, installation, etc.  It's a very good system for the money.

Whoa, major backpedaling. "It's gonna happen. I can FEEL it."

Yeah... you told me to back off the hype.

The EPS is also concerning.

Probably average around 45-50 inches here.

But its completely feast or famine.     Could be well over 100 inches or almost nothing... and that is how you get to that average.

The snow accumulated much more than I thought it would. 4.7" in the yard (measured several spots). Our planters have 5", and railing/steps have around 4" give or take.

Euro seems to want to keep the cold air a little closer to our east late next week. Maybe at least some coolish offshore flow and chilly mornings. Beats struggling to fall below 40 overnight and flirting with 60 in the afternoon like the GFS shows.

Yeah, definitely. I do notice the 12z ECMWF shows somewhat of a potential for backdoor cold and in fact this run would develop a nice Columbia Basin cold pool with a long east wind regime to follow. It was nice to see an improved 12z ECMWF that is to say the block was much stronger, amplified with good 'staying power' real sturdy. Might be gone the next run. Neither 12z GFS, GEM, or GEFS, CMCE show anything like that much weaker. Very complex pattern after Day 5-6.

18z GFS is running

00z GFS in 5 hours 14 minutes

Has the lower-48 ever seen -45C 850mb temperatures in the modern era? I’m not sure even the great 1970s blasts were able to pull that off.

That does not interest me at all. I would rather have green grass.

It is better.

Here's a GIF showing the high pressure system forming on the west coast and then breaking up at the end of the month. Midwest is cold.

At least it will finally get cold somewhere.

Despite the wind you get cold and snow consistently and nice summers.

Just too barren and windy overall.    Even in the summer... the wind is often annoyingly strong.

I don't care too much for snow that sits on the ground for months in a foggy inversion.    I would actually rather spend winter over here.
