PNW December 2022 - Part II

Got home from hockey in Snoqualmie about 10:30 pm. Didn't see any precip at all between Snoqualmie and Redmond, but the wind was REALLY whipping when I came out of the rink.

No precip here in Redmond at the moment, but definitely windy. I'm starting the process of unplugging electronics.

I don’t think Puyallup is above 45-50in. Swamp was killer for totals. Still good tho

They’ve definitely done a bit better overall the last few years one of the benefits of latitude. Really overall there’s been some amazing snow events here and the only 2 where Seattle south got screwed is January 2020 and this event. It definitely sucks but at the same time it snowed and got cold for a few days much better than nothing.

Whine, whine, “I want a regional event.”

OK, regional 50˚F rain.

Whine, whine “No, a wintry cold storm.”

OK, here’s your regionwide ice storm.

Whine whine “That’s the wrong kind of winter storm.”

Sheesh, some people are NEVER satisfied.

Coming from the guy who just got his ideal 8-12" and clear skies following.

Coming from a guy in a different climate, but just saying.

Right now it's a battle zone at the boundary layer, whete heavier precip and wet bulb cooling are threatening to close the freezing gap aloft and switch everything over to snow. This is occuring during the heavier bands. But as precip temporarily relaxes, precip switches to all sleet.

Did not expect this so early. Thought we'd have time before 2-4am to start seeing the first signs of change.

Not much going on here. A little light snow, switching to sleet sometimes. Been very light despite the dark green radar. We might get lucky the radar is looking  broken up and weak.

Definitely good to see but it’s still pretty early on in this one. Going to take atleast 12 hours to scour out here maybe even longer.

Are you genuinely okay? You say it’s a weather forum but you’re here projecting and flexing your life when literally no one asked. And I mean no harm from this, I don’t got the clout to poke around here, but let people chill. It’s these things that snuff out the enthusiasm and fun out of this forum. Get some rest.

bro is telling people to "get laid" as if that is the only important thing in life oh my god lol.

You need about another 1000' of below freezing layer but it will only shrink from here.  Snow isn't happening.

Getting mPing reports of sleet as far NE as Bothell and Duvall. Some serious warm air advection aloft.

Lot of sleet in Forest Grove

Washington County - Fern Hill Rd at Taylor Way

EURO shows some solid ice/sleet for another 20 hours as the outflow holds on-- I'd reckon longer in the Gorge as it overdoes warming.

Lights are already flickering...this sucks. Let's all open our windows and turn the heat on full blast

I find it silly how one of the biggest power agencies in the country has one of the worst outage maps... I'm not even sure what their map is trying to say.  But right now around 7,000 people within their control have no power.  I hope it stays on for you.

Temps dropping at the surface in Everett. Went from 25 to 22 over a few hours. Breezes from the east are a little more persistent.

Getting solid snow, tiny but well formed flakes. Nothing rimed, to the column still looks good.

So it’s the warmest it’s been all day here in Bryn Mawr/Skyway at a whopping 26.2 and 63% humidity. Steady sleet for about 20 minutes, and given solid sheet of ice that still remains on our road, I am not looking forward to what tomorrow brings. One the plus side, I’m officially on vacation so no commute; assuming that we have power and internet, I’m planning on watching some old F1 races. Lol pity they have never raced in the snow!

Ok. I'll take a slice of humble pie. I've never seen a situation in Eugene when the freezing rain arrives yet the temps keep dropping, but here we are. 26 degrees and everything is frozen. Ice rink outside.

This is a very impressive system and event. The entire Willamette Valley and the north Umpqua basin are still below freezing. Nothing to the north will moderate until we do...

Also, 15 or so mins until we officially break the streak and this winter officially gets an A- bare minimum for what it's accomplished so far.

EUG is reporting ice pellets now for the past nearly 2 hours along with that ZR. Super impressive that the cold layer is deep enough for sleet even down to EUG.

Mark was saying on air that he expected all ZR by now in PDX but the cold air depth is keeping things sleet longer than he expected.
