Seems like some colder air has crept into Central Asia. This is a relatively small lake east of the Caspian Sea (Sarygamysh Lake). It's interesting to watch in the winter because cold airmasses moving it produce snow cover in an otherwise barren landscape, looks like that happened again this past week: Jan 11 Jan 12

Phil
Both ECMWF & GFS agree on cooling of the tropical lower stratosphere as PV weakening/breakdown commences. If this happens it would destructively interfere with the warm/stable low pass signature associated with the +QBO, and likely augment the MJO. So we might get a bonafide MJO wave next month as a result. 6 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=
